I think you may be the 1st on here with a 4.3 to go for a power increase.

I think there will be a huge degree of interest in your experience if you do take the plunge and do it.

I would love to get mine chipped to T200 type power, but TBH, I haven't got the bottle in case of any potential warranty issues etc at the moment. :crybaby:

Cheers.

Paul.

Don't forget to inform your car insurance of the modification! if you don't they may class this as a material fact( car not to the original specification)and that could effect your premium and may not pay any claim you may have because they did not know.

Contacted TTE (the toyota tuning site in germany) and they said they arent going to do any tuning for the 2.2 D engines. I will be most interested to hear how yours goes. Couple of Q's , what brand of chip are you having fitted ? Who at Lindops did you speak to ?. What warranty have you been offered ?. What are gains youve been quoted ?. Cheers Richie. B)

I'll be honest, I've not really taken much interest in this thread because I'm not that interested in increasing the power from my engine / upsetting my insurance company / putting questions marks on the cars warranty but good luck to you and I hope it all works out fine and you get the power increase you are looking for.

One comment has just caught my eye though "I get to about 4000 revs and thats it"

You do know that for a standard 2.2 D4D engine, max power is developed at 3600rpm. And more importantly for a diesel engine, the maximum torque is delieved between 2000 and 2800rpm.

Taking the engine up to 4000rpm and beyond is achieving nothing, only wasting fuel and putting undue strain on the engine.

Anyway good luck with your mods

Hence 6 gears. Would also be interested in the outcome. I find my car is powerful enough though if kept within the rpm range quoted.

Sorry I missed this thread for some reason, doh!

The chip kit will not increase the amount of revs, it increases the power by at least 20%. This is done via a fully mapped chip, which in turn increases the amount of fuel at the injectors, because you don't have to "thrash" the car as hard, you can use lighter throttle settings, and for most people, that gives you better fuel consumption. I'd be interested to hear how you get on too. Especially what you're insurance company says. Keep us informed :)

How will fitting this affect the warranty?

How will fitting this affect the warranty?

These kits are NOT a genuine accessory and do NOT form part of your vehicle warranty, However, our kits are TUV approved and are a quality product, with a two year manufacturers parts warranty. If the chip ever fails, you can just unplug it at the box end, and run your car normally. It is highly unlikely ever to cause any more than extra smoke, as it provides more fuel to the injectors, however being a fully mapped kit, you should only notice extra smoke if you are thrashing the car!

Cheers

Yeah, right! Lighter throttle settings, better fuel consumption, I'd like to see some figures on that. It's a nice sales pitch but in the real world if people want more power they are going to use it and therefore use more energy, ie use more fuel.

If your theory held any water at all, the more powerful T180 would have better mpg figures, both official and real world than ordinary D4D's. And from what I can see it doesn't.

If you take your feather-foot driving theory to it's ultimate logical conclusion, noboby would buy 1.0 Aygo's, everybody would be driving around in 500bhp V10 Viper's!

And I'm still not convinced that if you had you're car chipped and them the flywheel or the clutch or the gearbox etc failed, that Toyota would not dismiss any warranty claim, stating that you modified the car beyond it's specification and in doing so exceded the tolerances for those component's and that is why they failed. "Sorry the bill is all yours"

Yes, that's what I'm afraid of. They will use any excuse to get out of paying up.

But I suppose you could remove the chip, before going to Toyota ...

Also getting a flat tyre in the T180 also stumps TOYOTA

So chipping the engine will probably open up a whole new can of worms for them to wriggle out of fixing any issues...

All this will be glazzed over when tomfraser gets his RAV chipped and enjoy many years (be it faster than normal) motoring trouble free...because we all know Toyota's are RELIABLE ;) ;) ;)

I respect the fact a chip kit is not for everybody, but let me tell you. those who have purchased one say the car is much smoother and has a better power delivery, thats not a sales pitch, its fact. Obviously a chip kit is not for you, no problem. The best results IMHO come from people who tow. I personally know of somebody who towed with a Hilux 3.0, with car and trailer from Queensferry to Lincs, normally he would need to refuel on the way home, with a chip fitted, he had a smoother, less of a thrashing drive, and had fuel in the tank when he got home. I am going to create "testimonial" sheet for anybody who buys a kit in future, you can then make a judgement based on other peoples experiences, we have sold dozens of them, maybe with a few more sales to TOC members you will see the benefits already experienced by others. if it makes the rav a better drive and overtaking power i will be happy.

Kingo,

Do you have the stats for this TMC chip on your website for the T180?..

i think Steinbauer are a tad pricey so have been slightly put off buying one and have been debating whether thats worth the cash for a while now ..£499 +vat (+ fitting) seems high, but i do like the given figures for it : quoted 211bhp, 353 lb/ft torque.

I see your TMC is listed at £395 (inc vat?) .. also, what sort of discount are you talking aswell for registering!? B)

Cheers

Dave

Has I said before, Good luck to you Tom and I do mean that.

You have more bottle than me to dismiss the warranty on a new car so easily even if it is a Toyota. Just ask certain T180 owners up and down this forum if they have found their new cars 100% reliable. It's nice to know that you have deep pockets if the worst does happen. Anyway, it's your choice and I hope it all goes well for you and the chip does exactly like it says on the tin.

But Kingo is right, these chip are not for everyone and personally I wound'nt touch it with a barge pole!

If it is such a miracle cure for everything, more power, better mpg, smoother etc with no downsides, why aren't the lads in Japan programming their own ECU's to do exactly the same thing! Then they could have kept the engine size at 2.0L instead of increasing it to 2.2 for the 4.3 RAV's.

Maybe it is just me but I don't believe in free-lunches!

Anyway, Good luck to you Tom

I will be putting more and more items on the "Members" area of our website, I do the whole website on my own so bear with me, I have a proper job to do as well, lol

ALL D4D chip kits are £375 INC VAT & Delivery to TOC members who sign up to our site, we don't hit you with junk mail either, just one newsletter a month and you can opt out anytime

Cheers, Kingo
