Could This Be A (02) Sensor Problem

Hi

Went to drive my 04 avensis petrol 20 t3-x

Started up fine, everything at rest was fine, but when when went to move of, despite pressing accelerator, car seemed to be sluggish, slow to respond, and has sudden jumps in speed when trying to accelerate rather than smooth.

Have had some 'sensors' changed about year or 2 ago, but would this be same sensors, or different ones.

Why do they keep failing if this is the problem

Any diagnostic test?

How much could this cost

Thanks

Amok2

Yes Toyota use a really advanced handheld tester to check these codes out. The toyota dealer i work at usually charges around 45 pound but dont be suprised if other dealers ask for more especially the small family franchised toyota dealers

my yaris is the same and has been for a year now

first i got a flat spot

then it got a jerky ride when pressing the accel pedal

i think it may be my 02 sensor but ive neva had it checked over

if you sort it post wat it was on here because it sounds like the exact problem i have

Just to update you

Initially took to local small garage - they said they couldnt really help if it wasnt a physical/mechanical problem, and best to take to toyota dealer for computer check (?ecu may nee re-seting)

Took to a toyota dealer (salford) for check

No complaints regarding them in terms of their customer service (have been there before) - they took car for test drive &

check up there and then.

However, they said they could not find a specific fault - said diagnostic computer check didnt come up with any thing

(also there is no warning fault light on dash or anything)

But we agreed that I would see how it went for a few days, after may be changing petrol, to see if that helps

I feel car is still sluggish, but perhaps a little less (have not yet filled up with new petrol). Still, definetely not the same acceleration as before

Last time (year or 2 ago) the same thing happened, they could not find fault initially, but when took it back again, they seemed to think it was 'sensors', and after changing them, car seemed better. Not sure how taking it back a second time helped them find the problem, but anyway, I think with these modern electronic cars, the garage is as much in the dark if the computer diagnositics show a blank.

Will see what happens. Pulling out of junctions & and at roundabouts needs more time, so clearly unsatisfactory situation

Hi

Just to let you know that the above problem seems to have (for the time being) resolved itself

May have been an transient fault or perhaps fuel ' dirt' or injectors clogged rather than o2 sensors

Will see how it goes

I have had simillar problems. My Toyota garage are excelent. Tspirit 2lt auto 03 plate. They tested and changed the air flow meter, then two oxcygen sensors, Still having the same problem. Next week the forman is going to drive my car to and from his home all week with the analizer conected to see if the fault occurs. He has already been out with me severall times. So far they have not been charging me. I also had a near miss with an artic at a round a bout. The problem of power loss is so erratic, sometimes ok for a week then trouble for a day or so. Allways seem to be ok when they test it.
