:help: I have a 1993 corolla with a 7afe engine but i reckon she's knackered...... smokes badly and clutch is dodgy as well. Im trying to figure out what engine to replace it with as i cant get hold of a 7afe. what will fit and how much work would be involved???

Would the 4afe 1.6 engine work off the 7afe loom and ecu??

Would a 91 16valve 4age gti engine fit straight in without messing around with engine mounts and would i need the gearbox as well or would it bolt on to the 7afe gearbox?? What about wiring??

Or would i be as well off to get the piston rings and valve seals done as i have been told that this should stop the smoking

thanks in advance

the 4A-FE will work off the 7A-FE loom and ECU. The 4A-GE would have to bring ECU and loom with it as it is very different from the 7A-FE one. Piston rings are relaitvly esay to change, having done it myself, so are the valve seals (done that too!) you can get a whole gasket set of eBay (including valve seals) for about £40 and the piston rings will be about £75 ish from toyota. Don't bother trying to find them somewhere else its a waste of time (i've looked, waited 3 months for some to come from america by which time i'd bought some from toyota and fitted them)
