High Pitched Whine When Idling

Hi all,

I have my Carlos Sainz a week now and I've noticed that when the car is idling (hot or cold) there's a really high pitched whine coming from the engine. I thought it might have been a bearing in the alternator or something like that but a friends reckons its too high pitched...its almost like a whistle. I don't know anyone else who has a GT4 to compare it with, is it normal?

Thanks,

P

Not sure about that noise on idling.

Whisles are normally caused by air being either sucked into the engine, or blown out of it through a small hole. So for example when on boost you can get a whistle if there's a hole on the inlet or outlet side of the turbo.

But if it's just ticking over then I wouldn't expect you to hear a whistle of that nature - or at least if you do then it would become ear splitting when your turbo is working.

That said, the GT4 is the first Turbo car I've had and not had anything go wrong in that area yet, so hopefully others with more experience can give you some better ideas.
