Thanks but what do the numbers mean ? I don't understand the 205/55 r15 87v i though if it had Stud Diameter of 100 they would fit is it inpossible to fit oh would i need to mod the car?

Front:195/50 R15 82v The front wheels

Rear:205/55 R15 87v the back wheels

Rear:205/55 R15 87v the back wheels

the first number 195/205 is the size of the tyres

the second number 50/55 is the size of the tyre wall (profile of the tyre)

the r15 stands for the size of the wheel 15"inches

and i havent a clew about the 82v/87v maybe a speed rating?

the 195 /50 15 tyres will fit fine but the 205/55 won't because the 205 part is width of tyre and would rub on the side of car the 55 is the height of tyre again would rub on car you could buy the alloys keep 195 on front and just change rear tyres to 195/50/15

Load and speed;

The letter is the speed rating and in this case V is quite a high rating for cars capable of up to 150mph, so almost certainly OK for your car Dave, unless you have serious mods.

The numeric part e.g. 82 or 87 indicates the load that the tyres can handle; generally larger tyres handle larger loads and therefore a have a higher number. 82 is equivalent to 475kg and 87 to 545kg. Both of these numbers are more than adequate for the car.

So far I don't think anybody has mentioned the spigot size - the size of the hole in the centre of the wheel. As well as getting the right PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) it's important that the spigot size is correct.

You also need to look at the offset of the wheel; even if you get a wheel tyre combo of the right size it won't fit unless the offset is right. You can adjust the offset with spacers if it's too low, but not if it's too high. In any case it's preferable to get the right offset.

Sorry, don't know the spigot size and offset for the Yaris, but I guess someone will.

See the Wheel and Tyre Bible for more info.

PS - are you sure those sizes are correct by the way

Front:195/50 R15 82v

Rear:205/55 R15 87v

It's just that that combination gives a different rolling radius front to rear which is unusual on a road car.

Also, they're almost but not quite stock MR2 MK2 sizes which are:-

Front:195/55 R15 82v

Rear:205/50 R15 87v

and which have the same rolling radius - i.e. the fronts have a tyre wall which is 55% of 195 and the rears of 50% of 225 which gives pretty much the same result.

If you don't have a constant rolling radius then you need two spares - one for the front and one for the rear.

Check those sizes first - very unlikely to be different front to back. Also check offset and spigot diameter.

And have you checked what effect they will have on your speedo reading and gear ratios. If you vary the rolling radius by more than a few percent you will affect the car's speedo and its performance. You might find you need to change both tyres if you want the speedo to be unaffected.

What size tyres do you have at the moment?

Bear in mind, lower profiles will make the suspension feel harsher and wider tyres will make the stearing heavier. Also, low profiles wear out quicker then standard profile tyres! If on a budget, I would stick close to standard sizes, just get better wheels, perhaps from a higher spec Yaris. :) In addition, if you change the rolling radius, your speedo will not be correctly calibrated and will give you the wrong speed. The faster you go, the bigger the difference.

At the moment im on bog standard rims that are 175-65-14

i think they are 14 inch wheels steel rims

so if i change the 205-55-15 rear wheels to 195-50-15 like the front ones everything will be rosey i think

They will be 14" rims if the tyres are 175/65 14.

The difference in rolling radius is only about 1% so effect on the speedo and gearing will be negligible.

So long as offset and spigot size are correct you should be laughing.
