Super Unleaded - Mk1 Toyota

So, at the moment I'm running my car on 98/99 RON fuel. I hate being taken for a fool, and really don't want to get taken in on the placebo effect!

I drive a MK1 Avensis - 2.0CDX (3SFE egine) with 158000 on the clock.

My straight question is this. Using 99RON Tesco petrol, am I going to benefit from

*Increased MPG (most important)

*Increased response (less important)

*Reduced emmisions

?????????????

The tesco superunleaded RON 99 comes from Greenenergy (http://www.petrolprices.com/greenergy.html) and I have no complaints with it. If I'm going to benefit from 2 of the above 3, I'll stick with it.

I'm pretty certain the car is acknowledging it (engine idled a lot quicker the first time it went in - ECU responding?)

The car's done me well for a lot of miles now, I thought it'd be nice to return the favour!

Your thoughts please. On MY car, will it make reasonable difference? I'm reluctant to step up to Vpower Shell stuff because it's £1.05 where I am.

Thanks in anticipation.

I have a 1.8 vvti so not the same model, but i would imagine a similar outcome. Respionsiveness is better in that the cars pulls like a tortoise that has a bit more energy than one that is ready for its winter nap. mpg, i have never noticed a difference using Tesco 99 ron or VPower. I know the theory being that if the car pulls slightly better then you use less throttle, but i do not get the extra mpg on the computer. I used to buy 99ron Tesco all the time, but now buy Shell unleaded as it is cheaper. The difference in response is so small that i wouldn't buy the dearer petrol just for that purpose, given it is 10%+ dearer.

Hope that helps

Won't make any difference to the idle speed. Higher ron delays the onset of knock meaning the engine can advance the idnition timing further making for greater power/improved fuel economy. At idle there's no demand from the ECU to advance the timing and hence no knocking. It only benefits high performance/highly modded cars that are designed to benefit from it. Think Corolla Compressor, Subaru Impreza XYZ ABC's, Evo XXV's etc.

If I were you I'd save my money and stick to regular unleaded
