Tyres For Corolla Gti (185/60/r14 82h)

I was looking to buy Goodyear Eagle F1s but they don't seem to make them any more in 185/60/R14 size.

I have seen Michelin Pilots are pretty good, but I can't really afford them right now, and one of my tyres is almost at the 1.6mm limit.

Can anyone recommend experience with either:

uniroyal rallye 550 - £33.50

Bridgestone turanza er300 - £34.50

I think these two seem to have the best wet/dry grip for the price. i am not worried about noise or wear.

Can anyone help?

try using www.mytyres.co.uk for price comparisons and evaluations. also, tyres are miles cheaper when bought from them, so you just have to find a garage who will fit and balance them

yeah that site is amazing! i just found it yesterday, and that is where i got those prices from.

i looked at all the average ratings for dry and wet grip (but filtered out those that had less than 40 reviews)

the only thing is, the reviews are for all sizes of the same tyre on all sorts of cars - i wondered if anyone had recommendations for this particular size on this particular car?

cheers

I run Yokohama S306 on mine (1st set of 'S302's lasted 7 years and only thought it best to change due to age - were not worn down), have run Yokohamas on most of my cars for over 12 years and find them best for Long life and very good grip (although grip in snow could be a little better).

hi - what about the yokohama c.drive? it is only £34.80 on mytyres.co.uk

or are you referring to a more expensive range?

Yokohama C drive I have NO experience myself with regards to use on my own vehicles but I have read/heard that there have been complaints as to regards tyre noise/rumble sounds.

Unfortunately if memory serves me correct Advan (who now own Yokohama) do seem obsessed with pushing this tyre hence on mytyres and black circles.com C Drive is usually the only tyre they list.

It’s a shame as Yokohama (as was) used to do loads of tyres for smaller rims of which the A008 (the one with the ‘banded’ tread edge) was the best from my own experience (but I believe was discontinued in 1994/95 except for 10 inch classic/proper Mini wheel size).

Tyres I have used on my own cars long term (all year round in this country and Europe) produced by Yokohama have been:

A008 – the best!

S 760 – Great Grip but don’t last long

509 – rubbish, very little bad weather grip

S306 – A Good all round hard wearing tyre but with excellent grip; though grip not quite as good as A008’s

I emphasise all the above is from my own experiance so thus fully realise somebody else's view may be completely differnet from their experiance.

:)
