The Dvd And Radio Are Driving Me Nuts!

My posts are gonna be a bit like busses I feel - had the car 6 months but today I am gonna get all my issues of my chest!!!!

When I released the T180 came with DVD's in the head rests I told the wife it would be great and keep the kids quite - in reality I wish I'd never taken the covers off and let the kids see them!!

Great idea, but am I alone in thinking that they weren't thought out at all before they were added??

DVD controls are in the back, and My kids are two young to use them

The headphones are to large for the kids as the head restraints in the car seats are to close to allow them to sit back properly and safley

The batteries last about 2 hours and are then flat

And by far the most annoying the damn things turn off every time you stop the car for a toilette, lunch, fuel break, or when you select third instead of First at the traffic lights and stall (oops!)

The kids start screaming and I have to pull over again to set the bleeding thing going again.

It's not only the DVD though the radio is as bad, can I not be trusted to turn it off for myself when no longer required??

...please, has anybody found a way to keep them on when you turn of the ignition, or get the remote to work from the front of the car? It could be the difference between utopian journeys and a full blown nervous break down :(

Again, thanks in advance for any replies

I do agree with most of what you have said .As you have pointed out the DVD player will not work without the keys ( key fob) in the ignition! it is not ideal if you wish to leave the kids in the car watching a DVD while you pop in a shop it defeats the object a bit and would raise safety issues.

I must admit I have not used the DVD much but I can see the drawbacks.

I expect Toyota to address this when when the Verso is redesigned as this is a major design flaw unless there is an obscure way round this problem .

Regarding the headphones rechargeable batteries are the way to go

Yep, it's a pain - I can't be the only one who finds this really annoying - would be grateful to hear from anyone who has over come the problem?? :help:

Having took my dvd sytem and radio system apart today for same reasons there are a couple of options i am looking at

A) Behind the glove box is the fuses for the dvd/screens Tellow is permanent 12v+ and Red is Ignition switched 12v+ i am considering disconnecting the red and linking it to the yellow via a small switch in glove. This will however need turning off after use or the DVD wil run the Battery flat

B) Change the car radio for aftermarket and link dvd radio together inc switching

C) Behind the DVD player the wires that come out of the back are phono type, you can buy a phono Y lead to give you an extra way and a phono to 3.5mm or 4.7mm earphone jack and plug normal earphones in ( If you have 2 or 3 kids just get a earphone jack splitter. All these items are available on eBay or any electrical shop like maplins or tandy type shops.

I am an electrician so this sounds easy to me i would advise getting it done proffessionally

How do, thanks for the updates!

When you say behind the glovebox, do I have to remove the glovebox to access them, or can you get to them from the engine compartment - just tring to get a cleasr idea in my head as that sounds like a good idea to me!!

Yes behind glove box, Open your glove box and remove grub screw on hydraulic arm, Then squeeze the outside walls together and the glove box will lower out of hole and then fall off hinges as you get lower. Goes back together in same fashion.

I have just ordered the fascia adaptor from toyota (just over £34 inc vat) will be here for weekend fitting (see link below or thread called 'Corolla Verso Fascia Adapter') will let you know how it goes on this thread

http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=60159

I have also ordered all the necessary leads from eBay to carry out the headphone and/or radio link conversion for less than £20

I had previously purchased a Radio head unit with built in 4" tv screen which i plan to link into the dvd system so passengers in the front can view dvd too which will play all sound through car speaker system. i will then put a 3 way av changover switch under driver seat behind dvd player which will switch dvd output to chosen selection 1- wireless headphones selection 2- wired headphone connection (if this works i will run a permanet wire under carpet/in trim to a plug next to passenger seats (all 5 if required) there is also an existing output under seat to feed the portable screens i had in my old car so that i can have 4 screens (or 5 inc radio) all running at once) selection 3- tv screen in radio

I have also just taken delivery of a portable freeview box inc free aerial off eBay which i am going to try and wire into system this weekend, will keep you updated on this too

Anybody who has lost wireless headphone can convert to a wired system for less than a fiver and make a neat job of it too
