As the title says I have had a problem since day 1 regarding the " inside " noise of the indicators when turning, No I,m not deaf I just find them so quiet and many a time miss cancelling them after I,ve performed a turning manouver. Is there anything I can get my Main Dealer to do increase the interior volume. Now thats a request or what!!!!!!

Clare, good luck with this one  and Anchorman is still on holiday. But still if I remember right

the clicking from the indicators is made from the flasher unit itself and not through a seperate source

like the seatbelt warning buzzer. Well thats how it used to be, dont know if Toyota is different. But if

it cant be adjusted how about taking a different solution. Get someone to run a wire from the indicator

circuit to a seperate buzzer/ bleeper whatever which could be buried under your dash somewhere.

Good luck.

Dave. ;)

I too find the indicators quiet, and also sometimes turning the wheel does not completely turn them off, and I have to remember to cancel them.

I've also noticed that when they are cancelled by the steering wheel both flash very briefly

Work colleague has a Vauxhall Vectra with those annoying indicator stalks you cant turn off for a set period :ffs: :ffs: So I'm happy with the quite one's I have.....

Haven't heard of anything that will do what you ask Clare :(

You could always pay a small child to sit in the front footwell with a pair of coconut shells though.............

Even if there's not an approved way of doing this, a solution should be possible.

I don't know if they're still available but you used to be able to buy a small device for motorbikes that you connected to the output of the flasher circuity to generate an adjustable volume beeper. If you can get hold of one of those then wiring it up to a car's indicators shouldn't be too difficult; you would need a circuit diagram and would have to wire from wherever you tap into the circuit back to your dash.

Datatool also have a really clever gadget for bikes that I could see being useful in any car. It sounds an alert, but only after 20 flashes. And it doesn't count flashes while you've got your brakes on, so if you're stuck at a junction waiting to turn you don't get an alert until after you have set off and 20 flashes have occurred. It wouldn't deal with all circumstances, but definitely would prevent people driving along for miles with an un-cancelled indicator on. I guess the brake sensor needs to work for either the handbrake or the footbrake on a car, whereas on a bike you tend to use both brakes together so connecting it into either circuit would work.

I guess either device might be too loud for a car; they're designed to be audible through a biker's helmet at speed, so you would need to check that on their lowest levels they're not deafening in a car.

The falsher unit is just a relay and some click louder than others. Let me have a look at mine and I will see how standard it is. In theory I can see several solutions.

If it is bog standard you can change it for one that is heavy duty (will accommodate a trailer) and that may click louder.

It may be possible to relocate it. If you rigidly mount it to the body you will definitely hear it.

You could possibly use a towing relay and fool it into thinking a trailer is connected. They have a built in buzzer.

You can use an external buzzer but you cannot connect it to both left and right as it will link the flashers and both sides will flash like the hazards. You would need 2 buzzers - one for each side or wire in diodes.

Just sit tight while I have fiddle and for goodness sake don't but a VW. It will end in tears!

I had a fiddle today!!!

The flasher relay is located behind that little panel on the lower dash just where the bonnet pull is. The problem is that it is removed by first taking the knee airbag off and I don't want to get involved with telling people how to do that unless they pledge complete competence.

Mine seems to tick reasonably loud and I tried a friends today and that seemed similar but it is subjective and and there could be some variance between relays.

Clare, the short answer is no, not easily but if you find that it is driving you crazy then let me know and I will perhaps consult with shcm to see how we can impose a resistance on a towing relay so that it will beep with your flashers. I think that would be the most workable solution.

Regards

By the way, thanks for the nice words!

Easy soloution, buy a towing buzzer, the type previously mentioned above. They are designed to buzz when you have a light out on your trailer/caravan. They are usually fitted in the boot of the car, as they are quite loud and would have a negative effect if in the front (Too loud!) I've never fitted one meself, so cant tell you how it goes together, lol But we have customers hard of hearing etc that need similar. I would get your local auto electrician to wire one up (in the boot area) otherwise you would have to wear ear defenders whilst driving, and thats bad for my hairdo :walkman:"
