Rear End Shunt

Got away from work early the other evening and on the way home was in two minds as to whether I should nip in for petrol or not. Decided I had plenty time so I head along to the Shell garage and top up with V-Power. I'm sat in a short queue of traffic waiting to go across a roundabout when I sees this Peugeot 307 coming towards me in my mirror. The driver was talking to his passenger and looking at him and I just new he wasn't going to stop!

BANG! nothing I could do about it, he's right into the back of the Corolla and I whack the Cavalier in front of me. I was pretty annoyed, straight out the car, raging, and I sees the front of the 307 has collapsed onto the road. Bumper folded, front valance crushed, all his lights smashed, radiator hanging out the bottom of the car with fluid pouring everywhere...I feared the worst.

Four scratches in the paint work. I kid you not. Four pretty big scratches/gouges where the glass lights had smashed, nothing out of place. Opened the hatchback, lifted out the spare wheel, not a dent, not a mark in the rear floor area. My guess is there is some kind of big bar behind the bumper which has absorbed the impact. We pushed the Peugeot off the road, mine was still running, (I'd knocked it out of gear and released the handbrake when I new there was going to be impact)

Front bumper has a couple of minor scratches as well, nothing bad. No damage to the old blokes Cavalier and him and his missus are my witnesses. Not that I need them, the driver of the 307 coughed that it was his fault and as we're both insured by the same company, getting it sorted out was simple. Car goes into Toyota bodyshop on Tuesday to get a new bumper and anything else it needs when they get the back one off.

I've negotiated with the paint shop to get some stone chips sorted out while it's in for a nominal cash fee so, after being really pee'd off, it's kinda worked out ok in the end. Still, I'd have rather he didn't hit me in the first place.

Oh, and don't buy a Peugeot, IMHO :)
