Changed Lift Bolts

Hi all,

Went and had my lift bolts changed as a pre-emptive measure just for peace of mind, haven't had time to take pictures of the bolts yet but i can say that it is probably worth doing. The wear on the bolts are not as bad as i thought it would be, but they are definitely wearing and eventually they will actually wear to a point of breakage.

A small Toyota dealer did it for me for £68 inc vat which is good in my opinion, small price to pay for peace of mind!

I will try and upload some pics of the bolts later.

I was feeling inconsistent strength of lifts... sometimes it would feel strong and at other times it would feel as if it never did hit the lift.

I had my car diagnosed before by Jemca in Edgware Road and that guy said that it could be due to the fuel i was using, he said that my engine was burning hot due to crap Sainsbury fuel and apparently every degree above the optimum temp, 3 BHP is lost... OK, so i used Optimax for a few weeks and the lift did feel a little better but it was still inconsistent.

So i thought this is something worth trying as long as i could do it cheaply by a Toyota Mechie... I got quoted 1 hour of labour work (£68) and he said it took 45 mins, and this was NOT done by Jemca (they are expensive).

I dont know if its just me, but the lift is back with a vengence :) But i will give it a week and i could update with whether it has really improved or not.

Is there any way that i could upload the pics of the bolts from my PC instead of an URL? I want to show the wear...

Aint it just. I am mechanically ignorant so i don't really understand how such a mechanism as the "lift" can be impaired by 2 wee bolts! :huh:

It's easily explained.

In engineering terms from my apprentice days;

The principle of shaving off a little bit of metal here and there and adding a bit elsewhere thereby producing huge results is widely attributed to the least understood part of Quantum Theory as it is understood today. It is called PFM.

Pure F'ing Magic!

Cheers
