$800 To Unclog Debris From Drainage Hose And Clean Evaporator Ass

Hello fellow Yaris owners,

I have been quite happy with my new Yaris until last week, when I noticed the sound of sloshing water and a stutter in the A/C when I turn left, as well as a damp smell. I found that the passenger side floor is completely soaked and I actually saw the water leaking on to the floor during left turns. I was informed by the dealer that debris had clogged my drainage hose, and it would not be covered under warranty. I paid $60 to have them unclog it, and then I received a call that there is also a lot of debris in the evaporator housing assembly and that I would continue to experience the same clogging problem unless the housing is removed and cleaned. This was estimated at $770!! They told me that the Yaris does not have a filter to prevent the debris build up. This does not make any sense to me--I've parked other cars under the same tree (literally the only place that I can park) for years, and never experienced this problem before. I have only owned this Yaris since April and I feel that this is unacceptable. Has anyone else had this type of experience? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your time,

Kate

Nope, not heard of it, but do you have the European Yaris or the America family sized version?

Welcome to TOC UK Kate

The U.S. Yaris Liftback is basicaly the same as our European Yaris Hatchbacks but with a slightly redesigned front and rear bumper (fender) and a different engine (1.5 litre I think)

I have not heard of any European Yaris's with the problem that you are experiencing Kate.

Keep pushing your dealer for satisfaction........................let us know how you get on

Hi, thanks for the welcome.

The dealer tells me that from time to time they see this problem with different Toyotas, but that there are no defective parts. They are suggesting that I have a bio-filter installed, and that I should replace it once a month (at $60 per replacement filter). I am definitely not satisfied, but I keep coming up against the same argument that states that there are no defective parts, so therefore the problem is not covered by warranty. I am still looking for the loopholes. Thanks for your help!

a 2007 Yaris with any kind of problem like this should be covered under warrenty due to the fact that it is able to become blocked and is therefore a design fault. I would ask to speak to the dealer principle and if that doesn't work go to Toyota US head office or threaten legal action. Is there a possiblity of giving the car back telling them your dissatisfied.

I would fight this tooth and nail if it was the UK i know for sure you would get a result.

I'm a little confused, I wonder why water would be sloshing around INSIDE the car? Is it water that has condensed to ice inside the car and has now evaporated?

Kingo

Kate,

I know it is inconvenient but had you considered buying a car cover to put over your Yaris at night, when it is parked under the trees.

A cover has to got to be cheaper in the long term then replacing filters / unclogging things / getting lawyers involved.

My mate had a problem parking under trees, the tree sap would mark his car's paintwork and the only solution he could think of was to buy a cover for his car.

Hope it get's sorted soon

Condensation from the A/C is leaking inside the car instead of outside), due to a blocked hose. The water accumulated under the floor mat and the carpet, and I'm not sure where else. I have since dried it out and cleaned it myself (the Toyota dealer let it sit for 5 days until the mold and mildew was actually visible--not to mention the stench).

Thanks for your suggestion. I actually did buy a cover, but I got very frustrated attempting to put it on and take it off in the pouring rain several times! I have since been using a towel to cover the vulnerable area--which seems to be working. However, there is still the matter of the $800 for repairs! I am going to speak to a lawyer friend of mine this weekend and see what he suggests.

Thank you for your help. I am going to call the regional Pacific office tomorrow morning, and also speak to a lawyer friend this weekend. I believe that Hawaii Toyota is connected directly to Japan, and not the U.S.--I'm not sure if this will make it easier or more difficult to find a solution. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your support!

Hi Kate, i once came across this problem on a BMW (water inside the car) the fault was not the air inlet being blocked but the drain pipe from the cooling unit inside the car, all the water that should have drained out under the car was leaking inside due to the carpet blocking the pipe which should run through the bodywork to the outside, if you run the air con for a few minutes check under the car for water dripping from the drain, if its not dripping then this is the fault, you dealer should be aware of this because there is no other explanation for the water and it sounds to me like he's having you off.

hope this helps, Chris :)

Thats a brand new car and its formed mould already? I would insist on a new carpet due to the poor design. Accept nothing else.
