Or you could just go to your local Toyota dealer and get the block replaced for free under the exessive oil usage problem. 7 year extended warranty.

Your local dealer will need to do a consumption test. The car needs to use more than 1 liter of oil for ever 1000miles. If so the the block will be replaced with a new one with modified pistons and rings. If the engine is knocking and the consumption test can't be done, prior authority should be sought from Toyota by the dealers. A full service history is not needed but would be an advantage to the claim.

You don't necissarily need a full TOYOTA service history but you will need to be able to prove some care was taken over the car. If you don't service the car, allow the oil to turn to glue and then it seizes you may well find yourself out of luck.

First thing is to go in and complain to the dealer about high oil consumption. They should then fill it to max on the dipstick and get you to come back 1000 miles later to see how much has been used. 1L + stands a good chance of being replaced. If it's above 1L then they'll check with TGB to get approval and then assuming they get it change the engine

I am sure I have this problem and I never even know it was a known problem. My car was register March 2000 so will be out of the warranty. Does anyone know how much this will cost to fix?

Cheers

hi mate

it all depends on how bad the problem is,but basically its probably the bottom end that will need replacing or you could just go for a complete engine.either way it wont be cheap. i know of people that have paid upto £2000 to have this sorted.depending on where you are in the country i may be able to help you.pm me if you are interested

Hello Mate

I have a 2001 140 Celica that I have just found out that I have a knocking in the Engine. I took it to Toyota garage who informed me that the bottom end has gone and that there is a 7 year extended warranty on toyota engines which could cover the cost of this repair only if I ihave a full service history ( WHICH It has but have lost all proof of this). If not they will open up the engine to check to see if it is the problem that they think it is covered by the warranty if not they will charge me £500 just to open up and have a look and put back together. Is it worh the risk for them to look at? My car has only done 46000 miles and I have had it from new first as a company car then I bought it from the company this year and now this happens.

Please advise on anything you know about this problem with Toyota Engines

Cheers

If you've had it from new you should know where it's been seviced right?

Just go to the dealer that did the work and ask them. They should be able to provide the job cards as evidence that all the servicing was done correctly
