Warranty - Worth Reviewing

I have a 1999 Avensis GLS which I bought used just under two years ago. It had done 18,500 miles at the time and has now done 36,000. I bought it from a UK Toyota dealer and paid a bit extra to extend the warranty to two years. This is now coming up for renewal and would cost £570 to renew for two further years, during which time I would do about 9 or 10,000 miles a year. The car has been very reliable with no sign of things going wrong so far. It doesn't get used for commuting, and I don't use it much for short stop/start journeys at the weekend either. It has, and will be, serviced regularly.

Is it worth paying for the warranty or should I just put the money in the bank and self-insure?

I got my Avensis 3rd hand with a 1 year Toyota Warranty. I had the option of extending, but decided to turn it down. When you consider all the strings attached (servicing on time at approved dealer, etc.) then it can wind up costing more than you first anticipated. And if you happen to fall behind on one single service for whatever reason, the warranty is void and you've just wasted £570.

I'd save the money personally, seeing as these cars are supposed to be so reliable, by the time it breaks down you'll have saved enough to go out and buy a new one.

After watching Top Gear last Sunday I want a Hi-Lux next, that thing was nigh-on indestructable! B) :boxing:
