Hi

I am sorry and I am almost sure that there is already a topic in the corolla section that discusses what oil to use in the car when filling up. I have searched and searched and can not find it. I own a Toyota Corolla t2 1.6 petrol (52 reg) and the oil is extremly low....the dip stick i think does not show any on it. I have not got the manual for the car. It was not with the car when i bought it last year....silly of me not to check. Please can some one tell me the best oil to use so i can get some

thanks

Depends on what you use your car for ;)

Do you push your car while the engine is cold?

Do you live in a cold place?

If that's the case, you should go for a 0/x or 5/x oil.

Do you put your oil under heavy load?

Like trackdays, races or something like that?

In that case, how hot is the oil?

If that's the case, go for a y/50 or if y/60 oil. y/50 if your oil just gets like +10-20° C hotter, y/60 if it's more than 20° C

If you can behave and drive nicely, I'd suggest you to use a 10/40 fully syntetic.

Ps. Your car is petrol and not diesel, right? If it's diesel, then don't read this message (probably too late now hehehe)

If you just want to top it up and want to use whats is probably already in there it will be 5W-30 and most probably Shell semi synthetic. If you want to change the oil then use any 5W-30. Synthetic is best. The manual and the toyota service agents recommends 5W-30. This will be plenty good enough for the type of driving you are likely to do on UK roads under UK temperatures. Don't get to confused with it all. Do this and you won't go wrong...

Nick
