Avensis 1.8 Gls 1998 Starting Problem Soloved

I have a Toyota Avensis 1.8 GLS 1998, i have posted a lot in the last few months about the starting problem, It would start but not rev up til the car was warm.

Loads of you pointed me in various directions, and I thank you all for your help.

I sent it to a Toyota Dealer in BATH.......... TWICE. ..... and they failed to find the problem, mainly because the age of the real mechanic has gone, all they are now are fitters, not knowing what they are fitting or why, but if its got screws or a few nuts they can replace it, all I can say is DONT GO TO A TOYOTA DEALER IN BATH THEY ARE ABOUT AS USEFUL As A....... well u know what i mean.

I tried the ECU temp sender, NO... the throtthe position sensor, the air intake sensor ( the one in the air intake) NOpe.

I was eventualy pointed to a GREAT Toyota specialist in Coleford Somerset called Nick Briksey, What a joy to deal with someone that is a mechanic, (not a spotty faced replacer,) and a good one at that, he found the problem, and after 3 months of frustration with main dealers, he found the Crankshaft Position sensor was sending out the wrong signal. :D

And he found a few other minor problems, so now the car is back to its old self and a dream to drive.

Just thought I would share this with anyone who is interested

And once again thanks to all thoes who helped me.

MAIN DEALERS................ What a rip off...............

Hi!

My mother has an Avensis 1.6 -99. It is cutting either ignition or fuel at 5600rpm. That is much before the redline. (noticed this when accelerating in third gear on a highway)

Idle rpm is also constantly jumping between, say, 750 and 850rpm.

I also noticed low torque around 3000rpm.

They checked it at toyota service in Vaasa and said there was an error code about the crankshaft position sensor.

What do you think about this?

If I'm going to clean/replace it where is it located?

Someone said it is in the distributor on some toyotas. But that is on the camshaft.

Thanks a lot if someone can help me!

Interesting. I'm having a similar problem, only with the 3S-Fe 2.0L engine. When cold it wont rev up and i need to use the throttle to keep it running. When warmed up it's running fine.
