1.4 D4d Mmt Sticking In First

Hello All

Purchased Auris in May, excellent in most respects. Unfortunately when in E setting the gearbox intermittently sticks in first gear. Despite increasing revs to 3000 - 4000 rpm the gearbox will not change up to second unless car is completely stopped and then operates perfectly. The car has been into two dealerships for almost a month of its life but unfortunately they have not been able to replicate the fault. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

If so I would be grateful to hear from you.

Many Thanks

Hello and welcome to TOC

I think that you may be experiencing "Kickdown Lock" which can happen when you rapidly press the accelerator to achieve fast acceleration.

When doing this each gear is held to maximum revs until it changes up..................therefore giving you rapid acceleration through the gears. (I used to occasionally experience this on my previous Yaris MMT when driving it with some spirit ;) )

Does the car stick in first gear if you accelerate gently? If the revs are kept low in first gear it should change up to second smoothly and quickly.

( I hope you can understand my attempt at describing the method  )
