Hi,

Just joined this forum. Hope I've done the right thing, just ordered a new XTR, p/exing my 07 Suzuki Swift Sport, only done 8000 miles in it! Like it lots but it's a bit of a chavs car, wanted a decent 4x4 as I ;ive in Norfolk.

Please tell me I havn't made a big mistake!!

Hi raggy!

Just out of interest what engine choice did you plump for with yr new XT-R?

I think you made a great choice (toally un-biased as I am!!) and am sure that very quickly you'll appreciate all that the Rav has to offer!!

Also be intersted in yr choice of colour (we are having a bit of a late run on red ones at the moment!!) :P

Cheers.

Paul.

Hi,

I went for the Diesel as I thought the petrol seemed a bit sluggish. Ordered a black one, i know black is a pain to keep clean but I just prefer it.

Raggy.I have had a 4.3 XT-R diesel since Feb.Bought it Just after they replaced the spare wheel with the T180 back door.My three previous cars where a golf GTI followed by two Saab hatchbacks (all bought from new.) I have to say that I have had more pleasure out of owning the XT-R than anything before.I sincerely hope you have the same pride in ownership that I feel.

Well said Jock.

Welcome to the club where we not only discuss matters of utmost importance but we also put a new slant on trivia and leg pulling. I promise you will be quite mad before Christmas.

You have quite a remarkable choice of vehicles as in my humble opinion the Swift is about the best of the small cars available. It is very well engineered, is a good alternative to a BMW Mini but infinitely more reliable and I think is a lot better proposition than a Micra or a Yaris (which are about the only other similar cars of that class I would consider). The other day a trustworthy mate reported that in a test drive of a new XTR diesel and said that the gearbox issues of earlier models were completely addressed and you will not be disappointed with the engine which is a gem.

You cannot go wrong so enjoy your new motor.

Be careful what you say as anything you do say will be stored for future reference and used to torment you to death.

You see buying the RAV was the sensible part, just wait till Chatman, Dave and Fuj' get cranked up!!!

Regards

I'm used to people taking the pish! as I've been on the Swift forum since I got the car.

The only thing that worries me is that I might find it sluggish compared with the Swift, couldn't really thrash it on the test drive with Mr. Toyota dealer sitting next to me!

I don't think you'll find it too sluggish considering it's a ton and a half and the handling will surprise you although the ride is firm.

Mine goes quite well when I gun it. Keep an open mind!

Nice one Clare

Nige,

I find because you up a little higher, you can see problems ahead better, you can antisipate things better, especially on the motorway you can choose your lane early to avoid braking and then accelerating all the time and thus keep up a rapid but smooth progress.

And when the road's turn tight and twisty the RAV handles very well for a big-ish car.

Just remember in a diesel all the power and torque is low down, so there's no need to rev the nuts off it.

Nige.I think you will be thrilled with the XT-R.When you overtake in the Rav Diesel in the lower gears you can get a real surge on through the lower revs. Quite surprised me,was not what i was expecting. All in all these are fantastic, fun vehicles.

Many thanks for all your help. I will posibly get it chipped anyway as I like a bit of tinkering under the bonnet, not too worried about the warrenty as I can soon change it back.

Thanks

Yes I agree, silver is easiest to keep clean but I just think black looks good.

Yes, but yours is Go Faster Red Anchorman!!

And everyone on here knows the black ones aren't anywhere near as fast as the red ones are they?? :P

You've made a great choice , I've driven and worked on many Suzuki's in the past and the quality of finish and materials is vastly superior with the Toyota vehicles .........trust me you will never look back :)

Hi,

Yes I agree, the Suzuki does seem very flimsy and the quality of the paint is really poor. Only had it since june and got loads of stonechips.

Hi,

Picked up my new XTR yesterday and I must say that I am really pleased with it. I've done 300 miles already, it's great to drive and really comfortable and I don't regret getting rid of the swift at all.
