My dads got a 97 corolla 2.0 diesel 2C-E. Done over 108,000 miles It's a very good car and very smooth to drive. He was driving on the 17th and while he was driving the cambelt snapped!!! He took it to a garage and they said that valves are bent in 2 cylinders and the camshaft has broken in 2 places. :crybaby: Hes bought another engine from another corolla that was a write off, that has done 88,000 miles. Their changing the engine at the moment and hopefully that should be alright. :) Ill let you know how the new engine goes.

Welcome.

Does he know how old the belt that snapped was? Quite rare to hear of them snapping if they've been changed according to the service intervals, and if they have then I wonder whether there's any guarantee against future problems?

Hi

Yeah. The belt's done about 62,000 miles and he was gonna get it changed , but it was too late!

My dad picked his car today. New engine is working alright but making a funny noise when idling. Probly cus it's been standing for months. I went to see the damage of the old engine and thier's bad damage to the camshaft. Well hope this engine gives many more years to come. :)
