Get yourself along to City Electrical factors or to B&Q and fit an all singing all dancing alarm - running off 12volts, and apart from beeping you can get a white box with a blue flashing light too!!! Go on - you know you want to??!!

Doubt you can get done driving along whilst yer alarm is sounding off???

Every car on the TV has the same, car alarm "Bleep" I'm sure it's just an effect, they all sound the same. Going slightly off topic, did you see "The Bill" last night? Toyota have lots of product placement in The Bill, Avensis etc, but in last nights episode, there was an overload of "Text SMS" sound effects, every scene had the same ruddy sound effect. Somebody reply to that :censor: :censor: :censor: :censor: text!

Phew, glad that rant is over with

Kingo

Know where your coming from there Kingo. One of my work colleagues has for his e mail alert a very sexy female voice saying

"guess what sexy, you've got mail ". Funny at first, but after a year, very irritating.:angry:

My Rav bleeps at me and also has a blue flashing light ....

I had a Viper 500XV fitted with a perimiter addon due to some joker in our neighbourhood going round spraying cars...

Not bad however the alarm installation geeza conveniently forgot to add the perimiter sensor  , so the Rav is going back on Sat to get it fitted.... Hope it rains every night, doubt the joker would want to get soaked whilst tagging cars...

Got a question though to all the mechie techie kinda bods out there....if this alarm system is wired up to the central locking...should it not also operate the double locking feature we have on our Ravs?

If I remember correctly (and this is going back 10 years or so) alarms and immobilisers fitted at the factory used to be covered by a European directive called "95/56/EC". The directive required that when you armed/disarmed the alarm, any feedback to confirm this, had to be optical. So, the manufacturer can flash indicators or interior lights, but not make beeps etc. It may no longer apply - I don't know - I've not kept up with these things.

So, if you buy a car in Europe with a factory fitted alarm/immobiliser, I would expect it is not going to beep or "chirp", when you lock or unlock. I think the idea was a passing attempt to help cut down on the amount of noise from this things, but obviously it has to make a noise when the thing goes off for real!

Of course, the RAV makes a noise if you try to arm with a door open etc. I don't think the directive specifies that this kind of feedback has to be optical, so this probably complies!

I don't know whether the directive also applies to aftermarket (e.g. fitted by yourself or dealers) alarms/immobilisers that chirp. It may well apply and it may be technically illegal for them to be sold now in the EU. However, it may be more difficult or even pointless to in-force the aftermarket stuff, but the vehicle manufacturers would have to comply.

Of course, just to prove me wrong, I expect I am now going to get a load of replies that say "my new vehicle X has a factory fitted alarm that beeps"!!!!

Cheers

I didnt know that Clare, but Toyota probably pay substantial money for the Toyota product placement on the programme, I hardly ever miss a programme either, lol

Na that doesnt work....

Got to take me Rav back to John Klees for them to figure out how to get it sorted out. If I press the lock button twice I override the perimiter alarm...

Also Im finding it hard to get used to pressing the disarm button twice to get in and start the engine....I keep on pressing it once and put keys in the ignition and nowt happens!....I will get the hang of this alarm system...The instructions are quite vague n all....

Should have just gone for a Clifford 650 and not bothered with this viper malarky...I kinda think the fitters are not sure how this system operates well...they dont inspire me with great confidence.... :(

Bloke accross the road had one of those perimeter alarms and it drove me nuts so I'm quite happy to blame all your problems on it.

You will get far more pleasure from waiting inside the car for the grafitti artist and dealing with him yourself.

Think its more operator error...

Got the hang of it now...click twice for the disarm and as for the perimiter alarm...I have tweeked it and it works a treat now...

Still need to send Rav back to get the double lock sorted tho

In regards to one of your neighbours...where I live no one passes by the cars as I dont live on a main road, I'm in a culdesac with off road parking so no one walks past unless its the low life sad excuse of existance who likes to tag cars...which by the way the local cops have arrested the HAWK tagger...wait for it....SHE is a 46  year old woman....now that was a suprise...

Now if there is any justice in this world anyone who has had their property "tagged" as these idiots like to call it will now have the freedom to go and tag all of her property and she can pay to have it dealt with.
