Changing An Aftermarket Cd Player On An Imported Vitz? Help Needed...

Hello,

I've done a bit of reading on the forums about changing the stock CD/Radio unit on a Yaris but I'm in a slightly different situation.

I recently imported a 99 Vitz that has already have an aftermarket unit fitted. The problems are there is no Aux in for my iPod and also the radio is for Japanese frequencies only.

So I've decided to change the headunit, most probably for a single DIN Unit. Here is the current setup:

As you can see there is a Double Din Kenwood Unit and I think an adaptor to allow it to fit the original space (it's hard to see in the picture).

Now what I'm looking for is to get from my current setup to something like this:

I know there is a Toyota fasica adaptor that cost £38 but this is a bit pricey.

Would this do the trick instead, it's a lot cheaper:

Would I then need one of these PC2-17-4 adaptors:

Or would the fact there is already an aftermarket unit mean I would not need one?

Is there anything else I need?

I have very limited DIY abilities so need to know if this is this a difficult undertaking, ie am I liable to mess things up if I don't know what I am doing?

Thanks in advance,

Robert

Hey there, this is something that im going to do once i get the chance and some time off work. If i were you i wouldn't both buying any of the things you've posted there. If i were you i would buy this:

Its got everything you need, facia and wiring harness. The chances are that the harness is already fitted behind the double din Kenwood unit. The best thing to do is to take the kenwood out and check what cables are there. There is a small chance that when the person fitted the Kenwood unit they might have cut up the toyota harness. If they've done this it will make it slightly harder to fit the new stereo. The only way your gonna find out is to take out the old one. Here's a link on how to get the stereo out. As far as i know, its the same for both the Yaris and the Vitz.

hope that helps a bit, cheers Chris

Because you already have a doubledin hole you should just need the RAV 4 adapter (bit around the stereo) and the wiring loom adapter and thats it.

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it.

I don't much fancy getting the unit recommended by cpdiddy, it's a bit pricey and involves memoving the coin tray and lighter which I dont want to have to do.

Would the unit I found do the trick:

Its a lot cheaper.

Alternatively if this one is no good, how about this one, although it is more expensive:
