Replacing Temoperature Sensor

Well after 6 trouble free months from my 07 Avensis, I have my first fault. When on holiday I noticed the temperature reading in the speedo console was giving strange results. It seemed to read about 4 degrees under at high temperatures (27 degrees celcius outside checked with an accurate digital thermometer). Also at night it seemed to be a few degrees over.

My first thought was something is blocking the sensor causing it to heat up slowly and cool down slowly but I'm now more of a mind that it is faulty.

So - where is it on an 07 D4D 2L?

... and should I try to get Toyota to fix it under the warranty or will I be laughed at for what might appear to be a trivial fault?

Air from the cabin is drawn into a sensor in the HVAC unit through a corrugated pipe. This runs behind the radio / navi cooling fan. This might cool warm air down and heat cool air up a few degrees.

The ambient air temp sensor is located somewher under the front bumper. Take it to your dealer for checking out, maybe the sensor is faulty, I have known them go faulty on there own, or after a front end bump

Ahhh - that's where it is - I thought it would be somewhere outside the air flow. I'll check first that it isn't covered with crud (if I can get at it).

Cheers.
