Nae bother young Sir. One should employ the expertise of a nimble chap to run in front of your new acquisition waving a red flag, with a man in a yellow (or orange) van following you closely behind, equipped with a towing dolly; car transporter trailer; and a map of the nearest dealer.

Then of course, as we all do, you will have read the owners handbook which instructs never to exceed 1033rpm in any gear and to beware of changing a wheel by jacking up the vehicle using the petrol tank. In your case that won't be a problem as you are running diesel.

13 years ago I paid £22k for a top of the range RAV4 with all the trimmings, have kept it, - in fact I think it was one of the first in scotland cos the dealer had no idea how to maintain it.

You have the benefit of 13 years of experience for Toyota to get things better. A wee tip - everytime you report any wee fault to the dealer, make it in writing and get a copy back countersigned that you have reported it. This goes for any new car. You then have a written history of how well you have looked after the car.

Enjoy your car and don't worry. Unless you want to join me racing around rough roads .....

The dual mass flywheel problem has been known for some years so one would assume that engineers may well have sorted out the problem to avoid on-costs of warranty maintenance.

I remember many years ago dealing with warranty claims on D8 Caterpillar tractors - these things were built to shift mountains yet some operators still managed to wreck them. Must be a lesson somewhere ??

Have fun.

Thanks for the advice, so glad I don't need the man with the red flag!

Just a bit nervous as I have never spent that much on a car before.
