Hey,

I might be getting an aygo as my first major car. I am still unsure whether to go for a manual or a multi mode. The multi mode seems more possible at the moment. I am 18 and have test driven both types and both feel rather similar. I would be going for the Aygo Blue. The only difference I noticed was if i was stationary like at some lights and then wanted to set off agai then i would press the accelerator and it took a bit of time for it to start off. Is this really a big deal or shouldn't I worry about it?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Neil

If you don't NEED the multi mode it's extra expense for something you don't need and something else that will need regular servicing.

I would prefer the MMT as it's something different and I think another reason is that both my parents have always had Autos so i guess it's made me want one. Any other comments or thoughts?

It's also not me thats buying the car. It's as a present. which I am most looking forward to and very grateful.

I agree. Also, the simplicity of NOT having MMT means that it will cost less to repair if something major goes wrong, or if you (eventually) need a new clutch. No doubt that the resale value of a MMT aygo will be as high as the Manual

As above, unless you 'need' an MMT i would go for the manual as the parts for MMT will be more expensive plus more to go wrong with it.

Also i dont really like the MMT in the AYGO as the engine isnt really big/powerfull enough to make the gear change smoothly as in the verso/avensis.

i've had experience of both and i would much prefer the manual ... (we had problems with our first aygo/the clutch burnt out and they dont know why, that was a multi mode and was brand new) ... now im not saying that that is going to happen to every aygo car because a friend of ours has had his since '05 and his has run fantastically and he's just as happy today with it as he was back then ... but as we lost faith in the multi mode, we swapped with a manual that we're so much happier with; its a lot more responsive! ... unless you are used to driving autos you might find driving it a little 'jerky' to start off with ...

they're real little head turners and how lucky are you mind having one as your first major car :o

Mart --- very wise words Mart! ... totally agree

argh,

This is so annoying. I really don;t know which to get now. Some people say MMT and some people say manual. I'm just fed up with a manual. I guess it';s to do with the old Ford Fiest I currently have. If I had a manual Aygo, I guess it would feel a lot different i take it?

it most definately would be sooooo much different ... it glides through the gears with no effort at all ... probably to do with the fact its a brand new car! ... ive driven lots of cars in my time, including a little old fiesta (a few years ago mind) ... and as i remember rightly that was stiff when it came to changing gear ... and ive driven a few autos in my time as well ... i always find they can be a little sluggish! ... i think of it like this; chauffeur (relaxed, comfortable drive) = auto ... racing driver (give it some welly/oomph) = manual ... :)

at the end of the day the preference has to be down to the individual ... im sure whatever choice you make you will be happy ... test drive them both again ... if they want a sell, they wont mind you driving them both again ... but take them both for a good spin! ... explain to the salesman that your undecided/im sure, without a doubt he wont mind!

I would recommend the mmt.

Done 800 miles now and love it.

I have always owned manual cars and also run my 1994 Cavalier with 225,000 miles on the clock(Manual and still has the original factory fitted clutch!)

It's true that the mmt takes a little time to pick up from rest, but you soon anticipate the lag and compensate for it.

The beauty of the e (easy or economy) mode can be seen at the petrol pump. The rev, speed and load sensing algorithm adjusts the gearchange point to encourage a more relaxed, fuel efficient approach to your driving.

The kickdown feature allows for good acceleration when overtaking.

You can force gearchanges, up or down when in the e mode by playing the accelerator pedal.

If you want to play at being a boy racer the manual mode combined with rev counter allows you full control of the gearchange point.

Hope this helps.

sorry to divert from the answers to this actual question, but that is somewhat impressive ... :o ... we've just come up to 135,000 on our voyager and want to replace it with the same model car but lower mileage ... 22500 on a Y reg is the actual car we want ... we were thinking that ours being an import and obviously 'not english' might make it work out a little expensive if we were to have to start replacing clutches and gearboxes! ...

well done to you  ... well impressed

I didn't go for the MMT as I allmost never get intomtraffic jams and such,

so I shift up to 5th and can usually stay there for tens of kilometers or minutes.

Since thet doesn't require shifting I think it's throwing away money on the fancy mechanism.

If I lived in a more urban location with more city-driving and more traffic jams I WOULD have gone

for an MMT, as in my previous 3 cars I really got a VERY tired left lef from clutching and de-clutching

all the time when I WAS in a traffic jam...

So my advice would be to go for the MMT if you ABSOLUTELY NEED AN AUTO.

If not: keep your money and buy somthing else with that...

Over here the MMT is €800 extra and that's a LOT of money...

I can't help wondering with the stakes so high and Toyota's need for sales if they might allow a weekend for one car and the following weekend for the other - or even a whole week. I also wonder if, after all that, you'll be ready to choose! Whatever - best of luck!

I ahve chosen the manual after all. My mum will be ordering it tommorow! so my final choice:

Toyota Aygo Blue 5 door Manual with Protection Pack.

Really can't wait!

Thanks

I would choose a proper automatic over a manual anyday, however I would choose a proper manual over an automated manual anyday, because Easytronic/MMT type gearboxes are awful in comparisson to torque converter automatics and CVT gearboxes.
