Route To Stupid Bhp

I wanted to know, if i upgrade my 3s-gte along the same lines as the Fensport ST205 but keep the ct20b and upgrade it to stage 2 instead of going Aftermarket how much nitros will the engine take before i start to kill it?

Im expecting either dawesy or djdna2000 to jump in first with their opinions.

You see i dont want to change the CT20B as it puts out 1bar sooner in the rev range than the GT28 fensport use and also i wont need to worry about my insurance going up if i keep the same turbo.

So i want to use nitro's because when im not on the drag strip i wont need the boost. Seems the right way to go to me.

I would have thought if a 75bhp shot can be run on an 3s-ge using stock internals then on a 3sgte using forged pistons, cams/gears etc should be able to take over 100 pretty easily.

Anyway i leave it to you!:thumbsup:

Hi gt4_wrc

First of all I'm no expert  But looking through my jap mags looking at nos. Here's there recommended gains using nos.

1.2 - 1.6 + 35bhp/ 55bhp with controller

1.6 - 2.0 +50bhp/ 90bhp with controller

2.0 - 3.0 +70bhp/ 120bhp with controller

So it looks like if you use a controller with the nos you can expect bigger power gains than just your normal set up of nos.

Also check out this site.

ok here goes

if you have a stg2 ct20 then max horse power will be aprox 380bhp but you will need forged pistons, 1.2mm h/gasket and i would recomend ARP headbolts too. bigger injectors will also be required as the stock ones cant keep up with more than 1.2 bar boost at the top end, you'll end up running max duty cycle on them which isnt good.

do all the above and you'll runn 1.8 bar boost all day.

the advantage of the gt28 is that it will take you well over the 400bhp mark and you will get more bhp per bar/boost. the fensport corolla can currently do a 12 sec 1/4 on 1.2 bar boost! with another 1.3 bar being fed in as the new block seasons (takes aproxx 5000miles to become seasoned) so 500bhp is very possible even on road fuel.

yes there is more lag but the engine gives more low down torque so you dont notice too much

Cheers dawsey

But can i just ask 2 more quick questions

Why use the 1.2mm headgasket, i would have thought using the 1.6mm would be better because i hear it increases the compression ratio - whatever that means

and secondly, fensport do a 2.2 stroker kit. Does this mean bigger pistons and the block being drilled?

Its just that if im going to start changing loads of things then this kit seems to have most things like pistons etc in it already and everyone says to me i gotta go 2.2 to get the big bhp

The 1.6 mm headgasket LOWERS the compression ratio. This is good (safer) for big boost, but loses you performance off-boost. The main point of a thicker headgasket is for strength - though if Patrick Chinsue can run 10 second quarter miles with a 1mm h/g, they must be good for something! (i.e. it doesn't NEED to be that thick). I have heard dodgy things about the TTE h/g, though I can't say if that was just down to bad fitment. The HKS units are beyong reproach tho. Which generation 3S-GTE do you have? The gen 3 has a 1mm steel h/g as standard anyway.

Stroker kit = longer stroke = no boring of block required. The stroker utilises different pistons, crank and rods to increase stroke from 87 mm to 92 mm (IIRC). Gives you more torque, though your theoretical rpm limit is decreased somewhat (not that you'll care as you can still get it to past 9K with the 2.2 stroker). It is not necessary to run a stroker for big bhp, though it is a good way to do it.

What sort of figures do you mean by big bhp anyway? The stock crank and rods are fine to 500 or so, I'll tell you what the stock pistons can do when I get all my kit fitted - though mine are happy at 337 currently.

Dunno anything about NOS sorry, but IMHO it is completely pointless when you have a turbo car (unless you are using a 25 jet or something to spool up a monster turbo). Just use more boost :D

Stick a big fat turbo on, get all the other supporting mods right (i.e. fuelling, electronics etc) then keep going further until either you are satisfied or you break something, then rebuild the internals...

The Fensport ST205 and Corolla arent made for ultimate horsepower, i reckon there has been an err towards driveability in their turbo selection.

Check out alltrac.net and the american MR2 board for turbo selection. Biggest hp GT4 i know of runs a T-04 turbo. Theres a limit to how far you can go with a CT20b and to be honest, i'd rather take the insurance hit and get a big turbo than !Removed! about with a moddified CT20b and NOS controllers, because ultimately NOS is a bugger to control whilst trying to get the power down and any insurance company would give you a bigger beating for NOS than a different turbo i reckon.

there is no reason you cant run big boost on a high compression engine as long as its mapped properly and you use good quality fuel (eg optimax)

fensport have developed high output engine that are still drivable (youll not often see 10 second skylines driven to and from the strip but the 11 second corolla is as mild mannered as a factory car. ive been in it and its hard to belive that it didnt come from the factory like this)

with they're latest development they hope to see over 500bhp on road fuel in an everyday driver.

big turbos arnt nessesaraly quicker on the road cos of all the lag

Thanks for all your help guys.

I've actually decided to sell the GT4.

I've been looking at UK Supra TT's and im sold unfortunatly.

But thanks for all the 3sgte advice, but i've decided to up the power a notch and go for something a little more comfortable.

The gt4's seats dominate my a$$ on long journeys

If you join the GT4OC and get insured through the club scheme, tyou can have whatever turbo you want and the insurance hit will be zero :)
