Lubricants On St205

Hi all,

Just purchased my fresh import ST205 WRC this week, and want to give it a full lubrication service. :) I've tried searching the forums, but I can't seem to find the information I need. :(

First thing I noticed was what initally looked like small tiny particles of metal in the dirty oil when I removed the dipstick. Upon further inspection, they turned out to be bubbles... as apparently dirty oil tends to get this in more than clean oil due to the viscosity.

I've now replaced the old oil, with some havoline fully synthetic which we put in the Skyline's at work... along with a cheap motor factors oil filter... and will be running it with this untill this coming weekend, where I will stick a Toyota oil filter and some Silkolene oil in it. :)

What I need to know though, is what lubricants and viscosity's are recommended for the ST205... for the engine, gearbox and transfer and rear differential?

The engine takes around 4.5 litres, but I don't know how much oil to order for the diff and box & transfer. :(

Am I right in thinking when I fill the gearbox up, it fills the front transfer box up at the same time... and I just fill it up untill it runs out? Also I've heared that the rear diff also takes the same oil as the gearbox and transfer, but not sure which grade or make is recommended?

Thanks in anticipation. :D

5W 40 or 10W60 engine oil (millers CFS is good stuff and about the same price as silkolene)

75w 90 synthetic gear oil for the gearbox, transfer and rear diff (again millers trx is good stuff and reccomended)

dont forget that the gearbox and transfer share the same oil but there are two drains on the gearbox one below the LH driveshaft and one just the other side of the crossmember) both are 24mm plugs

Thanks matey, just what I was after. :)

How much oil should I order for the rear diff, gearbox and transfer in total?

Also, would I just fill them all untill they start running out of the filler plug hole... as they usually act as a level guide don't they? :)

Cheers.

7 litres will do it rear takes 1.1 and front/gearbox 5.2

Silkolene Silktran Sync 5 is another good option, currently on offer at opies...

Thanks matey. :) Think I'll be sticking with the Silkolene brand, as their engine oil has always been top notch quality. :D

On another note, I'm fitting a new exhaust tomorrow... from the CAT back. I'm not replacing the front flexi with CAT on, as I'm leaving that standard for the time being, but I've bought a HKS Silent HI-Power exhaust which is from the centre of the car back. The pipework is 3 inch, but I've heared about boost creep issue's with 3 inch pipework.

As long as I keep the standard front pipe, and don't go over a 2.5 inch front pipe, I shouldn't have any problems with boost creep should I? :)

Thanks. B)

no youll be fine. you can use a 3" flexi if you keep the cat, but as your keeping both you will have no problem

Thanks matey. :)

I stuck the HKS Silent Hi-Power on today... and boy does it sound lovely.

It isn't really silent at all. I had the exact same exhaust on my previous ST202 GT, and it was quiet on that... but not on this. B)

Thanks for your advice chaps. :)
