hello all, im getting there with the Gt4 slowly. got a new fuel tank to fit next weekend. i have a question though. my car is great in 1st 2nd and 3rd though the box, and it realy does kick you in the back at 3500 rpm, but in the later gears it gets very flat and feels like its holding back. any one have any ideas or know were i can get it taken to find out whats going wrong?

it has a K&N on it at the moment, but it looks very small...

Do you mean that the power feels less when you're doing 3.5K in 4th/5th compared to same revs in 2nd/3rd? If so, then remember that as you go faster - i.e. 4th and 5th you're not going to get the same kick that you get in the lower gears; by the time you're doing 60 or 70 a lot of the engine's power is going to be going into just keeping the car going. Yes I'd expect a standard GT4 to have some acceleration at that speed, but there's no way it's going to be the kick you get in the lower gears. I can't think of an engine fault that would result in less power at a given set of revs compared to another.

Alternatively, if you mean that at a given speed you don't get the same power in a higher gear compared to a lower gear then again I wouldn't be surpised. Even with the Turbo the 3S-G(T)E engine needs reasaonable revs to produce its power. It's not a high torque engine like a large capacity petrol or a diesel engine. It needs a few revs to produce its maximum power.

If you do think it needs work, then I'd highly recommend Toyauto at Hucknall, Nottingham. If there's something wrong with your 4, or if you want it improved, then they will know the best solution.

do you have a telephone nuber for them at all?

Ill put it this way, my Mr2 is faster 60-100 and thats N/A

its very very strange. It just doesn't feel right. I need to take some one out in it that has a Gt4, or i need another G4 for for something to compare it against to

When you put it like that, then yes it sounds like it might be a bit flat; Of course MR2 is much lighter, but I'd still expect a stock crate to be quicker 60-100 than an N/A MR2.

Mine feels quicker than the MR2 at speed, but I haven't dyno'd either so I don't know whether they're anywhere close to the HP that they left the factory with.

Toyauto number is 0115 978 7844

BTW - you mentioned the air filter; is it a panel filter and if not is it boxed in at all? From what I've read on various forums it's quite important to have the filter breathing cool air from the outside because of course the air under the bonnet is quite hot due to all the radiators and heat exchangers that there are in there. Typical mod is to move the Battery to the boot in order to leave space to create a boxed off cool air section where a filter can be located.

I cant see that cone filter getting ANY nice cool air lol. I doubt its that though.

Does the GT4 have a MAF sensor? is it clean? It might have oil from the k and N filter
