The tricky bit is that you have to have a 'url link' to a web page. Unfortunately you cannot just paste a picture staight in. So you basically have to find a web page where you can stick the picture. I used a link from my web based email account which let me upload the photo there. Then I got the address of the image and clicked one of the little icons at the top (insert image) and pasted the address in there. The BB code help (down there below and to the right) also shows this and other effects.

I used Toyota Touch Up tape on my last Avensis. I wouldn't recommend it unless the scratch is deep enough to show the undercoat. Each rectangle of tape is still thick enough for its outline to be seen in most lights.

I have some light scratching and seem to remember you can buy a coloured polish that would hide them. It won't be an exact match but you pick the colour of polish closest to your car.

I agree with you. The Touch Up tape still shows a mark as bad as the scratch if it's only a minor one. The tape is a swine to stick as well if it's a very thin mark or an odd shape stone chip.

The colour polish does work on things like car wash swirls, I used that quite successfully on my maroon Carina.

For chips and minor scratches on a silver Avensis the tip I was given by a bodywork guy was not to bother with a colour touch up but just use clear lacquer to fill the damage. The undercoat colour is a good enough match to the silver to make this a nearly invisible repair.

  • 4 weeks later...

Go to your local dealer quote your car colour usually on the side of the door. They will give you either a spray on or touch up paint with lacquer. As long as the scratch isn't to deep and not in the body it will come up like new, point to note you need to wait a few minutes for the true colour to come out once you add the paint. The lacquer brings up the paint and a damp cloth gets rid of the unwanted paint around the scratch.

:D Hope this helps

I find that there is a knack to useing the touch up tape bought from toyota dealers, if you just strip it from the backing and place it over the scratched area you will find that you have the patch edges standing proud of the actual bodywody and once polished the whole of the patched outline will be more noticable.

I find that if you can place the patch onto a flat surface "backing still attached" before fitting cut it on an outward angle with a craft knife or razor blade therfore making the edges tapered and thinner that when applied over the scratch the tapered edge can then be pressed firmly to meet the exsisting body paintwork the more the angle you have used when cutting the better the finish will be, polish the area after finshing the repair being carefull not to lift the patch.

Please note

The patch you intend to use try to make it an irregular shape not square or round, if cut on an inward direction you will remove the adhesive, i normally find that i can not use the smaller peel off shapes of the touch up tape.
