Service Not Recored

I went into my local toyota garage today to order my lift bolts and a new replacement airfillter the service manager didnt know the part number for the bolts so i went back home to get it when i was gone he did me the favour of checking the service history for my car and to my shock the only service was at 20,000 miles the car is now at 43,000 when i checked the air fillter it was nearly when it is meant to be white. now iam going to fully service it myself at the end of the month with all upgraded plugs, leads, eninge oil, gear boxoil, and fillter

should i be worried that it says that its not been serviced although it has all its stamps in the book i mean the car is smooth and has no nosies

What do the stamps in the book say? Have you got any receipts?

When I was looking to buy one I went to look at one at a Toyota garage that had no service history from 20k miles (it was on nearly 60k). The salesman said it had no history, but he would do the 60k service for free. Errr.... No thanks!!

My mate phoned up a week later about the same car and was told it had full Toyota history. I expect they just stamped up the book.

Hmm.

I don't know about only Toyotas dealer stamping the book. However my last serive at Toyota Jemca Edgeware road (yes i am naming and shameing here) cost me 590pounds for the 40,000mile service.

To my shock when i took it home and was getting my K&N fitted by loccal mechanics i told them it had just been serviced and they noticed my standard filter was black, and i had been charged for a new one according to my invoice. Coolant hadn't been checked. I was charged some extra for draining some sort of oil (no it wasn;t engine oil or gearbox oil) some mysterious charges. Pretty depressing.

When i called to complain i was passed to a very rude manager. At that point i gave up as i wasn't up for playing their games. they lost me completely as a customer. I now have an honest Toyota dealership taking my money.

So watch out for the unscrupulous Toyota dealers and their lies. Sorry if this sounds rude as their are a few dealers on these boards. But not all are dishonest, luckily for us on the boards we have decent honest people here.

Go over everything toyota has said they have done with a fine tooth comb. Leave no stone unturned becuase sooner or later Toyota GB will be hearing about all the complaints a i suspect a 'management-shuffle' will take place at various dealerships.

If your book isn't stamped it means the car has not been looked after like it should have and probably been sitting on a forecourt somewhere for ages.. I wouldnt touch anything doesnt come with full history. Be it the main dealer stamps or independant garages. No stamps no sale.

£590 for a service?!?!?

What on earth did they do to it?!?!?

Have you still got the invoice? I'd be interested to see exactly what was on it.

For the record the one I was talking about is RRG Salford.

I've used Inchape Oxford recently and they seem very good so there are some better dealers around.

Ok here is the invoice list i also got it mot'd same time but that was only 44.15p

carry out air con service - 76.51

carry out coolant change - 54.00

replaced ventalation system pollen filter - 27.00

carry out Brake fuid change - 63.00

carry out Clutch fluid change - 54.00

MOT test - 44.15

Brake fluid - 11.98

Clutch fluid - 8.92

Coolant - 16.99

Coolant (again.. hmm) - 4.05

Air Filter - 22.44

Fixed Serivce Jemca Value4 (value, yeah right!!) Service 2 - 90.00

Oil - 20.00

GSKT, Drain Plug - 1.29

Oil Filter - 7.01

Dont foget to add vat too. over 590!

They took me to the cleaners that day and lost me as a customer forever.

This was at JEMCA EDGEWARE ROAD. they are LEXUS too, so Lexus and Toyota owners, watch out.

Whats even worse is they did not even have to change the brakes as the car was actually owned by my older sister and she drove it like a nun. Never even going about 4k rpm. So if brakes needed changing too. well lets just say it would have cost and arm and leg. I literally bought the car from my sister 2 weeks before mot and service was due. So car was in great shape. around 40k miles for a 51 plate t-sport.

In additon when i called up to complain, the manager was rude and i still can't forget the words he said, almost calling me out for a fist fight. :o

'Why don't you come down here and we can do this face to face' in an overley aggressive tone. All i did was call to ask why certain things had not been carried out and changed when i had paid for them. I wonder do Toyota actually send these people to special courses to deal with the public or just grab any hoodlum off the streets and position him as manager.

You aren't alone in your feelings about Jemca on Edgware Road. I bought my CTS from them, and their service was absolutely atrocious. The guy that served me was doing his best but I could tell the whole infrastructure around him was practically non-existant. When I bought it, i obviously got the years tax and tank of petrol thrown in and all the other little extras that make a sale. I saw him put it all into the system before paying the deposit and he said it'd take a couple of days as I actually bought it December 23rd, so I came back on 27th to pay the remainder of the cost and take it home. When I got there to collect the car, he had jsut left as he was doing a half day and ended up sitting there for 30 minutes waiting for someone to go get my cts. Then they came out to say it wasn't taxed yet *SIGH*

I caled the guy on his Mobile and luckily he wasn't too far from the dealership so he came in, grabbed all the paperwork and walked over to the post offcie to get the tax for me. Then when I finally go to drive away I notice there was only a quarter tank of petrol in there in spite of them agreeing to a full tank, so i got them to fill it up after a short *discussion* with the assistant manager.

Needless to say when they phoned me up to see when I was bringing the car in for a service a year later, I laughed quite loudly down the phone and said I was taking the car elsewhere.

OK, so reading this kinda deters me from taking my car back to the dealers I bought it from. I know almost nothing about how cars function and would probably not even realise if I had been rolled up. I bought my car in June time this year from the local dealers with the used car 12mnth warranty and I do about 10k miles a year. The car had about 26k when I bought it and was dealer stamped at roughly that milage (give or take a few test drives). With the previous stamps being 7k, 14k & 20k all at the same dealers. I have been hoping that when the years warranty runs out, my service will roughly be due (after 10k miles) is this right? Also I've been thinking of taking the car for a service at a garage that I have been using since I started driving at 17 and my Dad has used for years, they always show you the old parts that have been replaced with new, which I think is good practice. Will a non-dealer stamp service in the history reduce the re-sale value of the car?

They really are a complete mess over there. I was waiting about 25minutes for them to find my car in their own parking lot when i went to pick it up after the service and mot.

When i was considering trading in for a compressor 2 months ago, i saw an ex-demo on the Toyota website at jemca for 12-13k, i think it had 450miles on the clock, thunder grey with cloth interior. Even though it was the closest dealership to me, about 2.5miles. I decided to look at compressors as far away as colchester, 50-60miles away. I wouldn't go near Jemca Edgeware road even if you paid me 50grand. Such is my experience with them. I just hope the poor guy who buys that compressor from them knows how they operate.

It's funny that i have had experience with a number of dealerships on Edgeware Road, Mercedes, Volkswagon etc. All have had the best service i've come to expect from reputable dealerships, apart from Toyota Jemca. So it can't be the water in the area. lol.

Exactly how old is the car, as a general rule i always get the services done at the official dealership for the first 3 years after buying the car new. My Pug 106 i had from brand new and took it to the official dealership for the first 6 years. Bit of a waste, but when it came to it's value i found it was higher than the book value cost for the year and make/milage. Bonus.

Granted you don't have to take it back to the place you bought it for servicing. But i would reccommend finding another Toyota dealership near you that you trust more. I use the Toyota/Curry Motors dealership in Twickenham. If you want the full address let me know, but you can find it on the toyota website. I trust them completely, they are honest curtuous and the guy in the parts department that i'm always bugging for part numbers and prices is truely patient.

Not all dealerships are bad, unfortunately there are more bad than good, so you must try them or get reccomendations form others.

Oh good, I'm guessing you are referring to Sims Toyota on Riverside retail park, just where I bought my car. I did also look in at the 'carshop' - now thats a hard place to buy a car.

The car is a '53 plate, not sure when first registered but it cant be much more than 4years old.

From what you're saying its worth having the Toyota service stamps, in that case I'll take it back to the dealers - Sim's - for my first funded service and make a judgement on that….that is unless anyone has any other dealer recommendations?

Travman:

I forgot to mention that they sold the car to me with front pads 80-90% worn. I took the car back three times as the front nearside wheel was squeaking; the first "visual inspection report" which I have kept gave the brakes a green; they booked it in for a "tensioning belt" change. OK, I said fix it. Still squeaked, second visual report still green - which I also kept - they took it in again and had another look at the belt, still squeaked. Third time I took the car in I took a mechanic out with me, who said "defiantly the brakes" finally they replaced the pads. The service guy not realising I had just bought the car blurted that the pads were 80-90% worn. I was understandably annoyed and hence reluctant to take it back!

I think stamps are important and help the resale value, and to put it bluntly us T-sport and compressor owners are getting shafted when selling/trading on. Every little helps. I've just checked my service book and every single stamp is Toyota, but by dealerships all over England. Car had 3 pervious owners. 51 plate, so thats 6 stamps. Next service due in 2 weeks so another toyota stamp to come. :)

Do you not have any other toyota dealerships in your area? Otherwise i guess if you have to use them, then you must. I would get your local independant garage to check what everything you paid for was carried out/replaced. As you and you dad have been using them for years i suspect they could spare 10-20minutes max to check everything according to your invoice to put your mind to rest. If you find something suspicious then maybe contact Toyota GB directly and report your experience, maybe they might shake down your local and provide you better service. Just a thought.

The whole Jemca franchise seems to be a big rip off, i have avoided them ever since they quoted me £240 for a minor service... Thats nearly 2x more than what i ended up paying at another Toyota official dealership.

Shocking.

Too true mate, not seen many T Sports in Northampton, but I have seen a red one around the weston favell area. I live in the sixfields area these days, and drive a 'champagne' (not really sure what colour to call my car) coloured 53 plate. I'll look out for you!

Yeah the Sims sales guys were blaggers of the highest order, but I have had some experience in car sales, so I think came away with a pretty good deal.
