Avensis - Knocking Sound From Engine

Hi all,

My lovely car has developed a knocking noise from the engine bay.

It only sounds when on tick over (once its warmed up), any revs and the noise dissapears.

With the bonnet up, standing in front of the car, it sounds as though its coming from the left bottom, where the fan belts are.

The sound is a rattly knocking, like something is loose and banging against something.

Its a D4D deisel manual

Anyone have any ideas ?

I am taking it to a garage tomorrow so they can have a look, i am just hoping that its not too expensive !!

Go to your local Toyota dealer... and get the partnumbers first.

get them to quote you..

its a 3>5 hour job..

- complete flywheel flaiure would result in the car not going any where.. :D which is no good!

it all depends how you drive.. when my flywheel started to knock i drove it for 10k miles before the tone chnaged to another knocking noise B)

btw the flywheel sits on the otherside of the belts.. gearbox side..

ar eyou sure its comming from the belt area ?

My point exactly, The flywheel is the opposite end, I know we have DMF problems, but the water pump is the end you are speaking of, and I would expect something like that or a tensioner pully to be faulty, rather than the DMF, get it checked out thoroughly first

  • 2 weeks later...

Go to the nearest Toyota Avensis garage which is in Romford.

I live in Thurrock too, so this was the closest and best place for me too!!
