Run Flat Puncture

While I slip on my Kevlar vest I will tell you that I understand why you bought your Honda and if I'm dead honest I think it looks quite nice. I certainly have no doubt that it will be very well engineered.

Now where did I put my hard hat and goggles?

Oh Anchorman

Engineered, I can understand that. Trust most thing's designed / built in Japan to be top quality.

Still have fantasies about the NSX. By the way, anybody out there with an NSX, i'll give it a good home, polish it everyday.:lol::lol:

Looks, sorry it fell from the ugly tree and hit the Peugeot 4007 on the way down!:lol::lol:

Yep. thanks again for replying to this topic

BTW, what is the procedure for driving on runflats? x miles at y MPH? Is it in the manual, which I've not got with me ATM.

I'm asking becuase the first dealer I went to advised me not to drive away from them (they would, wouldn't they!!) and also wrote on the inspection report that they had advised me that it was dangerous to drive. I tried to argue with them about the point of a run flat tyre (the clue is in the name!!), but they were having none of it. I was obviously not going to test the top speed of a T180!!

Sywy,

You can run at 90kph or 55mph with the TPMS light flashing, for a maximum 160km or 100miles.

Just hope your local dealer isn't more than 100 miles away... :D

You'll be fine as the T180 is sold in Europe as the Rav 4 "Clean Power". It comes with run-flat tyres, so you should be able to get tyres

Try giving Club Toyota a ring on 0845 275 5555 and I'm sure they'll be able to help.

I thought the light flashed under sudden deflation (such as puncture), and was steady for a 'system' fault or a slow deflation?

Anyway, the reason you have a light on is because the garage hasn't reprogrammed the TPMS to tell it that it has a new tyre fitted to it and therefore it isn't recognising the new tyre. So you get a light on the dash!

Welcome to the slightly mad world of T180 runflats :D

You have been given the correct information, they are a b :censor: :censor: :censor: h to fit, and can take HOURS.

Kingo

I'm sorry.. but HOURS to fit a tyre!! .. that is just rediculous. I have been a tyre fitter for 20 years or so and if ANY tyre took 4 hours to fit I would put a steel toe capped boot right up the fitter'S :censor: and tell him to get his finger out.

On the old style manual tyre changer............

changer.jpg

....I could take a wheel off a car (wheel nuts allready loose) remove the old tyre, fit the new one.. blow it up (no balance) and put it back on the car in under 1 minute.. and no.. I'm not talking nonesence, we had a race at work

With the newer types of changer....

...runflat tyres are fairly EASY to fit.. it can be done in well under 10 minutes, including balancing. As far as reprograming the cars system.. I have no idea how long that takes, but I would be very surprised if it will take hours to do.

Providing the pressure is correct, take it back to the dealer that changed the wheel. It just needs re-setting.

The warnings are; Light on all time - Tyre pressure warning

Light flases for 1 minute then reverts to on all the time - System fault.

Duncy, aftermarket wheels  and get Toyota to disable the TPMS. I parked next to a Rav4 granite

in ASDA last week, it had aftermarket alloys and looked stunning. If I had any sort of TOC literature I would

left something on the windscreen.

Davy, in your experience is this whole runflat system a load of kak ? Could the wheels be used with normal tyres ?

If not how much for a decent set with tyres as I think you would get for less than £900. I personally would love a

T180 but NEVER with those tyres. And if it did cost what I reckon for a set of normal wheels, whats that compared

to the 27K for the price of the car ? Plus you could allways sell the run flats to other owners as spares :lol:

Yes your right, it is ridiculous, but sadly true, its not the fitting of the tyre so much, although it is a pig, its the TPMS and re-code that takes forever

On the old style manual tyre changer............

Those went out with the ark, and so did ours

Like I said, its not a normal job and we have one of the new tyre fitting machines............it still takes hours, we have had a couple of techys who fit tyres do the course, they still want to run a mile when one comes in. I wouldnt have mentioned it to be shot down in here if it wasnt a problem, its a pain in the :censor: :censor: :censor:
