Tyre Pressure For 205/55r16

my tsport 2003 ran on Bridgestone turanza er30 195/55r16 83v...

i wanted to improve the road handling and have just had 4 Bridgestone turanza er300 205/55r16 91v fitted to the standard alloys...

they certainly fit the alloys better...

i would be grateful for any information on the correct tyre pressure to run them on...

i was also surprised that my front brake DISCS needed to be changed at the 40,000 mile service...

mrT told me that asbestos was not used in the brakepads anymore and both pads and discs wear out nowadays and both need to be changed... and charged me £330 :ffs: for them including labour...

doesn't sound right to me!!!

has anybody else needed their front brake discs changed at this mileage...

Hi there. Tyre pressure should be around 32psi.

As for brake wear, I bought mine with 44 k on the clock and the brake discs looked relatively worn down. By the time it hit 50k, i decided to strip the wheels and pads off and take a look at the overall wear. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. The pads had a very deep notch worn into them (all 4) and the pads were worn down to nearly nothing - but more distubingly they had large cracks running through what was left of them all the way down the the backplates. I immediately ordered some new uprated parts and fitted them myself.

I think for the cts anywhere between 40-60k is a good time to look at changing them but it will depend on how hard the car has been driven in the past.

For the tyres i've changed to Goodyear Eagle F1 205/50 R16 for £82 and using 32psi

For the front brakes i was told at the 50k service the pads needed doing, which i knew anyway and they'd "be looking to do the discs at the same time" and they quoted me £250 parts and labour, the pads where worn down but had somelife left in them then but discs wasn't that bad at all.

Worn discs is not unusual on any make of car at that mileage, especially a car like that of the T Sport, of course it does depend on the way it is driven. We make full use of an onboard disc grinding machine these days. If a car comes in for service where the discs are scored, then we can skim them (subject to minimal thickness requirements) Once they are badly scored, you have to replace them. Just thank yourself you dont own anything French! then you would know about brake replacement

LOL!, my first car was french. A trusty Pug 106 in diablo red. I used to drive it hard and to this day remember the mechanics face when i took it in for one of the last services i had it. He was stood holding my brakedisc when i went to collect the car and showed me how i had cracked the disc completely in two. 'Ah that would account for the uneven braking i was experiencing and the squeeling noise' I said as i smiled and took the keys. He'd never seen anything like it in 25years as a mechanic.

Armz.

thanks for all the info guys...

i was just a bit miffed about the discs... thinking that they are almost never changed if the brake pads are updated on time... i have never had brake discs changed in any of the cars i have owned before... and that included a citroen zx!!!

i should point out that only the front discs and pads were changed... @ £330 :ffs: ... or it would have failed its MOT

i was told the back ones were good until the next service... [t-sport04 - were you quoted £250 for all 4 corners?]

should i start saving to get the ones on the back changed as well asap... :(

as regards the tyres, i was torn between goodyear nct and the Bridgestone er300... the local kwikfit had both on a buy-4-pay for-3 promotion [cost me £340 all in]... i chose the Bridgestone for comfort and wear [as i do motorway mileage mostly] on the advice of the guys there ... i was also assured that the effect of the slightly larger diameter tyres on the gear ratio, speedometer / odometer readings and bearings would be negligible...

i have run them for about 110 miles now... i can vouch for a greater sense of security when am pushing hard... although i almost lost traction off a roundabout when i was showing the CTs's backs%#de to a 'pressing' audi 1.8T... not recommended on a wet day like today...

the owners manual suggests running the 195/55r16 on the 2ZZ-GE engine @ 41psi over 160km/h and 32 psi under 160km/h... the same is reflected on the note in the glovebox in the CTs... do i stick to the same pressure on the larger tyres... and why is there is such a big difference between the recommended pressure under and above 100mph...

Mr T adv the smae thing for my 30k service last month needing new front and back brake discs as well as front and back new brake pads and wnated to charge about £680!!!!!!!!1 i was like no way!!!!

PSI running about 32 all round sometimes 34 - depending on the weather. Running goodyears on the front and bridegstoens on the back - seems that bridgestones wear out much quick on the fornt than the rear

Yeah they quoted me just over £250 i think for the front discs and pads (parts and labour) and also £45 for a pollon filter, which i bought myself for £17 and fitted it in under a minute without getting my hands dirty :)

Silver_Shadow, any tyres on this car will wear out much faster on the front then the rear as it is front wheel driver, i rotated my tyres so all four needed replacing at the same time and then replaced them with 205/50's.

As for the brakes has anyone else needed rear discs or pads after 30k? maybe it the dealer just trying to get some extra work, was it a toyota dealer how said that?

i was told that the rear brake discs were good till the next service... that would be at 60K... almost double the mileage quoted for...

did you get a 2nd opinion silvershadow?

running close to 350 miles on the new tyres... am very happy with their performance except for the noise they generate on the concreted sections of the M25... am running all 4 @ 32psi... works well... thanks all

Mechanic at the local reckosn they look ok for a while yet breaks will beed replacing shortly though - so far thats been about 2 months at its ok. But heres what iv got lined up:

Combi Black Diamond Front and Rear Brake Discs

Green Stuff Brake Pads front and rear

inc P&P

£360

Thats not a bad deal at all :-)

Beats what Toyota wanted to charge me for standards.

that's almost what mrT charged me to replace the front ones only inc. labour :ffs: ... am dead sure am not going back there again... am thinking of getting black diamond combi to replace the front ones and switching the [used for about 3000 miles] front ones to the back...

  • 2 weeks later...

just a quick note to say that i am 1000 miles on the new tyres now @ 32psi... and they are rolling nicely...

i have occasionally strayed into unsafe territory and lived to tell the tale...

i haven't noticed any noticeable  effect on either the speedo [i usually refer to the speedo on the satnav anyway] or the gearing ratio... seems to be working like it was b4... only better!

that got rid of my worst fears re: going for slightly larger diameter tyres :D

my next project is fitting the K&N typhoon kit [and a twin exhaust trim if i can afford it]...
