Hi All,

I curbed my car badly, not doing 5mph but more like doing 50mph. I hit the central reservation of a dual carriageway after hitting something in the road (stone or something, it was night so dark) Now my right wheels are well knackered and the right side skirt is scratched.

I've put a claim into my direct line car insurance (protected no claims fortunately), anyone know how long the repairs would take. I think the alloys need replacing as big cuts/slices on them, the side skirt doesn't look to bad though.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Its a Gen 7 GT model with the GT special alloys. Any idea on lead time for those to come through?

Thanks.

Lucky you never caused more serious damage to the car...such as bending your axle.

As you are going through the insurance i would also get the tyres inspected and more importantly your tracking will probably be knocked out, so get that done too.

Thanks, although I have no idea of the damage to the axles etc, just the wheels and skirt look very damaged. :(

Anyone know of a good site for Gen 7 GT alloys and side skirts so I can get rough prices/sourcing. I really need it repaired asap otherwise no transport!

Why these things happen on a Sunday where everywhere is shut I have no idea! :'(

Edit: Added some pictures! :(

The wheel damage doesnt look that bad really. It still looks driveable (most cosmetic damage) i dont see why you need to find the parts/prices as this is the job of your insurance company surely??

If the insurance are involved i would suspect they will fit genuine toyota wheels and get the skirt prepped and repainted.

I would guess that toyota is the only place you will get a brand new GT wheel too.

Hi

There is a lot of wobble and possibly damage to the tracking etc. So need it fixed properly esp since its under 1 year old!

I have to order the gt wheels from Toyota via my dealership. My access is £275 which will be less than the replacement wheels and repaint of the skirt plus any other work required.

I was thinking if they had them in stock get them myself as a quick solution, but no joy :(

Thanks.

Update:

Well the garage is going to pick it up sometime Monday (waiting for them to ring), getting a hire car free through insurance, but have to wait until Monday also for them to ring!

Moral of the story, don't have any accidents on a Saturday night, nothing is doable until Monday!

Oh anyone any idea on the time from order to delivery of GT 17" alloys from Mr T? Since they are going to have to specially order them according to the Toyota garage.

Thanks.

Toyota can place a fast order and it can be there the next day! I have ordered many special orders... more recently a front wing and i had next day delivery.

Its probably a little late now but imo that isnt a over £200 worth of repairs.... you can could get that wheel refurbished in a day for under £50....

The skirt could be filled with a body of body filler... then resprayed at about £70, then the tracking is another £50.

Def get the tracking done as the front toe will most likely be out.

Also noticed you live in Derby... i personally do not use the inchap there.. but i prefer the service at the ron brooks in illkeston.

Hey there,

Well the alloys need replacing since they have been flattened buckled by the damage so best to get new ones (pictures don't show it up to well). The skirt is just a bit of filler and respray, however it looks like the front right wheel has been pushed in a bit (about a cm or two) so may be some underlying damage to the suspension or something (I have no idea). Guy picking it up on the transporter said to ring tomorrow (Wed) afternoon to get an idea of the work required and timescale.

The alloys are special GT split rims, they are quite expensive each from what I gather, anyhow on the insurance I get a free hire car which saves money in itself (even if it is a Ford KA, makes you appreciate how nice the Celica is! :) )

I hope its nothing serious with the slight push in, I have visions of the chassis/crumple zone areas damaged. :(

Ta.

PS: getting it on the transporter was fun, the front bumper on the GT just touched the ramp!

The wheels you have are the fondmetal tech 5.. which for future reference you can get for £130 a piece here:

http://www.performancealloys.com/details.a...ssion=941673279

The wheels cant really be pushed back in.... maybe the drop links have been damaged/ bent so the suspension is tilted back making the wheel further in the arch  which isnt a big fix.. and the dealer will be able to fix that in 30mins without any signs of any prior damage.

One thing make sure they do get the tracking done on your car as that will def be out.. resulting in increased tyre wear and petrol consumption.

Know what you mean about the front lip... it is even lower if the wheel falls off.. like mine did:

IMGP40981024x768.jpg

practically impossible to get the thing back up from that!

Hey thanks for the link on the alloys!

(should it be the 17x7.5 ones for the GT?

here? I have no idea about sizes other than the GTs are 17" apparently! )

The garage are ordering 2 new rims and 1 new tyre, respray the side skirt and apparently the underneath of the front bumper (I guess from where they have scraped it on the transporter, or whatever I hit making a mark?)

All in all around £900 worth of work/parts, + car hire, so glad only £275 excess on my insurance!

I should get it back by end of next week, or earlier fingers crossed!

As for your "lowered" car, that must have been a bit scary! Reminds me I need to check where the jack points are on mine without getting caught on the side skirts.

Cheers.

Update:

Apparently completion isn't until 17th Oct as they are waiting on the wheels now... seems a bit long to me unless they are shipping them via Royal Mail! :(

Yup I thought it was a bit long, anyhow run the car insurance people to see if they could make more sense of it.

Apparently that is just an estimate date and is probably longer than it will really take, however the garage are waiting for Toyota to send them and Toyota say it may be a while...

Perhaps they are using Royal Mail? :D

Rest of the car is fine, just the rims... phfff! lol

The ford KA is getting boring now!

Well all I can say is bo**ox!

Completion 17th Oct... which is 3 days longer than the 14 day free car hire from DirectLine... Bugger, either I don't go to work and loose money on unpaid holidays or pay for a hire car... Why Toyota are taking so long to deliver 2 !Removed! rims I have no idea.

(Edit wheels now delivered from Toyota, now they are going to do the minor paintwork work... I would have hoped that could be done in parallel to ordering the wheels! )

Personally i would get them to do the body work, then you can collect the car and bring it back when the rims arrive... i had a front wing sprayed on my car in half a day, so it will not take more than a day for them to do the body work. If they take longer then get them to give you a car for free... as its pathetic... they have basically sat on your car for a week waiting for some rims to arrive.

Changing a wheel... inc swapping the tyres will only take 15mins.

Well getting it back tomorrow, so I will have my car back at last! *yay*

Hopefully it should be a spot on repair, after all not as if there was a great deal wrong in the first place!

Update: Now have the car back *yay*. Nice shiny wheels and all.

Feels a bit odd driving so low down after driving a Ford Ka for 2 weeks!

It was Just Car Clinic in Ilkeston, good job just took a while!

Oh incidentally got Forza 2 for Xbox 360 and there is a celica almost like mine, just with the pre-revision Gen 7 nose. - Yes I'm sad I know :P
