Celica 4ws Tracking

Hi All,

I have a Celica ST203 4WS, it has been tracked twice but its still pulling to the left, the front tyres are badly worn on the inside from counter steering this. I have tried tracking it with the engine running and 4WS system active so all 4 wheels will be pointing straight ahead, and also tracked it with the engine switched off after engaging 2WS (back wheels lock straight for 2 wheel reverse) but to no avail, still pulling.

The very odd time it would drive straight but this may be down to the road surface and angle. Its like the rear wheels are not centering correctly, yet its been tracked.

Any advise is much appreciated. I have read EVERY 4WS page on the net and even tried to figure out the japenese pages, i have figured out how the 4WS sensor works from this and also found out that I need a new speed sensor (but I think I should save that for a different topic.

I think you definitely need a full 4 wheel align from somewhere that knows those cars properly.

I had that on my MR2 and the difference in its ride is fantastic. Only cost £70 at Mr T which I think was a small price to pay to get it done right, though I guess it could be more for your car.

Even on a normal 2WS car the rear alignment can cause a lot of problems. But also check you don't have a binding brake as that can cause the effect you're getting too.

Brakes are not binding, checked them last night. I got it tracked (one of my buddies works in a tyre shop), so I saw the actually track and alignment on the screen and it was bang on. When I was getting it tracked I left the engine running so the 4WS system was active. So its tracked bang on. Its like the rear wheels are not straighting correctly and are a bit off causing it to pull, but I can't understand why if it was fine when on track monitor. I got fault codes from 4Ws and it was saying the speed sensor is faulty, so maybe that is part of the problem. I need to find where the speed sensor is though, don't know if there is a seperate one for the 4WS and can't locate the one in the engine bay.

I have the same problem with my st183 4WS, I know my sensor is stuffed, where can I get one? I can't get one from Toyota South Africa, wheel alignment just doesn't work. Mine goes in to fast mode when it feels like it and never goes back, I have to stop and start the car again to have it reset to slow mode again. The senser sits at the back of the left front wheel, I don't have ABS so it is only for the backl steering, but if you do have ABS it is part of that...apparently.

I would almost DEFINATELY say you need to start by changing your speed sensor! I have an S14 Silvia with HICAS (Nissan's version of 4 wheel steering), and I had a problem with the rear wheels not centering, changed my speed sensor...and everything works spot on!!!!
