Central Locking Problems 99 T Avensis

Hi,

I've got a few problems with my Avensis that I bought a few months ago, mechanically and body work it's sound but the Electrics are a bit dodgy.

The keyfob's not able to lock the car, the only way to lock the car is to lock it from inside the drivers door (locks all doors) unlock the drivers door manually, get out and then lock the drivers door with the key.

Locking the drivers door doesn't lock all of the other doors as i'd expect, just the drivers.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? How i could investigate it or how i could put it right?

Thanks in advance.

Ian

so eg...

1) when your sitting in the car with the doors closed

pressing the fob ... what does it do >?

lock the doors.. or click click ? or nothing... ?

if nothing check Battery .. for fob..

and check senstiviy sensor in dashboard..

2) when your sitting in the car with the doors closed

pressing the lock button do the doors lock and open ?

- if yes = wires ok

- if no = bad wires

I think the problem with your central locking will be ... the reciver sensivity ..

or the wrining in the door well.

Ian

Any joy in getting solution to this problem as I have exactly the same?

I would add that the keyfob will set the alarm but not lock the doors so if you open the door all hell breaks out.

On mine the keyfob will unlock all the doors so obviously the signal is getting through to the sensor OK.

Someone out there must have a solution.

Regards

Wes

It's the dome fuse in the engine compartment. Look for fuse 3, rated at 7.5A. The fuse does not blow but deteriates.

I had the same problem and check the forums for the remedy.

Thanks - switched Dome fuse with spare 7.5A - still have problem.

Interior locking switch will lock and unlock doors OK so all wiring and mecanical door items seem OK.

Remote will unlock all doors but will not lock - just activate alarm.

Read through a bunch of forums but still confused and solutionless!

I had a similar problem with a 99 Avensis except it wouldn't unlock rather than lock.

This was the solution....

Here's what to do if your key refuses to remote unlock the car and disable the alarm.

1. Open car door

2. Put non-working key into ignition and turn to ON (just ON, you don't need to actually start the car). Leave car door open.

3. Wait 10 seconds

4. Press the unlock button on the key fob twice. You will hear the central locking made a little noise.

5. Take key out.

Maybe if you press the lock button at step 4, it might work for you.

Let us know if it does.

Tried this and other combinations but no joy.

With door open and key in lock both lock and unlock on fob when pressed make a little click - then followed by another click, so system is clearly receiving signal.

Ok Sounds like it is the mechanism in the drivers door then. This also happened my 1999.

Local Mr T got one from a secondhand door going to the skip and fitted it. It's been fine since

I had the same problem with my 2000 Avensis, this procedure was exaclty what the Auto electrician told me to do. Basically the key fob generates a new code with the car ignition each time you use it for security purposes. If there is a break in the sequence (in my case due to the Battery going flat) then you need to get the two to talk to each other and hey presto!

Great! - but I now have a situation where the alarm is armed and the fob will not disarm - only way to stop alarm is to disconnect Battery.

There must be some way to disable alarm so I can try to get the two to talk to each other again as described.

Meanwhile car is abandoned!

Any ideas??

So can't you try this with the alarm going off or am I missing something? The entire procedure should take less than a minute! As long as you don't choose 5am Sunday morning to try, most people will forgive the brief annoyance.

I'll let you know in the morning when I get my ear defenders on!

Got on the ear defenders, locked up the wife and dog and after various trials and combinations managed to get alarm disarmed. Now back to original problem which was the inability to lock remotely from fob (fob will now unlock and disarm and arm but not lock)

Think I will just live with current sitiation - lock all doors with internal switch - unlock drivers door internaly and exit - lock drivers door externally with key and arm alarm if necessary - use fob to unlock all doors on return.

Thanks for the replies and help

Noooo.... Don't give up! I have the exact same problem. Inside switch locks all doors, so mechanisms are fine. Remote arms alarm, so remote is fine... Please someone must know the answer....
