Keys...or Lack Of Them!

Hey guys, I'm new here

Just got myself a Toyota Yaris (Echo) T-sport 1,5 liter 2004 model (phase 2)

Problem is I only got one key with it... the grey one... so I went straight to the Toyota dealership in Iceland (known for great great great service) and bought a new one for around $130 dollars.

They tried to program it but came back and said it was an "sub" key and could not program other keys, and I would need to buy a new ECU for around 1200$ dollars, which is quite a large amount.

I've done some searching, and some people have succesfully worked out this issue by either knowning their ECU could reprogram keys or "fixing" the old RFID chip on the reciever so all keys with the correct cut could work to start the car.

Anyway, I figure since I live in a country where stolen vehicles are rare then diamonds (almost) how much problem is it to defuse the immobilizer and hence get rid of the problem? Any DIY guides out there for that?

But I would like to know some detailed information on this subject, and that is why I am asking you guys.

In hopes of good answers, and thanks in advance,

Jonni / krullih
