First Ae-92, What Should I Look For?

Hi just loking to buy my first gti ae 92, what should i be looking for(apart from the obvious rust) ie how do i know the sh*t hasnt been drove out of it??

rather than go into all the areas to check for rust do a quick search its all on here.

as for mechanicals, these are strong engines. check the oil, make sure its to the correct level and not like tar. also remove the oil filler cap, it should be fairly clean inside. if its all crusty and black its a sign of poor servicing.

gearboxes are prone to jumping out of gear, if it does this it will ether need a new gearbox or the old one stripping and repairing.

other than that looking at the car will give you an idea of if its been cared for.

a note on wheelarches though, check to see if they have been repaired especially recently, as some people have them done to sell and the rust comes back later on.

try to get a later Non-TVIS car as they are a bit better

Thanks going to look at a 91 one on sat from a main toyota dealer,have been guarenteed its mint so heres hopin,looked at a rite heap last nite,inside wrecked and problem wit gearbox,grinding going down down into 2nd,was a 1992 so pity it was abused so bad. Gearbox problem is cinco rings i'd sayis this wat u were talkin bout dawsey,btw ur car well mint !!gonna keep mine bog standard like i always do!!

I'm in Louth,willing to travel anywhere,want a non tvis pref 91/92. One in cork which de dude sellin it reckons i wont leave witout,has 83k on it!He appears to know his stuff,not like de rice boy that had last one i looked at. There a 1990 one on carzone with a supercharged engine, celica box and drive(fensport built) 180brake accord to ad. I'm tempted but had heart set on a standard?????Wat do u all reckon Standard r modded???????????

I personally think standard..... more reliable,less things to worry about. Its nice to have a modded one but every1 as modded gti's around where i am.

Mine is completely standard.....even orginal alloys and tape player. only thing na standard is an immobilier.

Fensport Gti looks amaing tho!!
