Tvss Remote Fob For 1994 Carina E

I am trying to find out where to get hold of a spare remote fob for my 1994 Carina E.

The car is fitted with a TVSS security system, but I don't know which version - The Thatcham listings show that the TVSS III was fitted from Jul 96 at the earliest, so I suspect its some previous version, but I don't know which one.....

The fob itself is rectangular, black with a single white button and no LED - Toyota tell me its a discontinued item.

Can anyone tell me which TVSS system I have here? Is it a fixed code type?, allowing me to buy any 'learning' fob? If not, does anyone know of an aftermarket supplier and how I would sych a new fob to the system?

Help?!

Cheers

Car is a UK Carina E 2.0l GLi Estate, L Reg, 1994.

They occasionally pop up on eBay. The 'learning codes' or procedures are widely available and would be accessable to any one who subscribes to 'autodata'. Again you will see various procedures being sold on eBay. I would contact one of these eBay sellers direct once you have a fob to hand.

I had one on my Carina E but never used it for the 5 years I had the car. the alarm is set when locking the door anyway.

gazza - do you mean you always locked the Carina by turning the key in the driver's door?

eBay is the place to find these fobs though they are getting pretty rare. To 'learn' a new fob just hold down the small green button on your alarm control unit (under the drivers seat) until your alarm light comes on - I think the green button is on the same side of the unit as the big wiring connector and you'll need a cocktail stick or similar to reach it :). Then just press the button on the new fob and the alarm light will go off - done! As far I can remember this won't erase your existing fobs and you can only program one fob at once. The model of the alarm is printed on the top of the unit if you want to search for further info.
