Hi guys,

my Aygo is nearly 2 years old now and about to go in for its second service with 18k miles on the clock. The car has not had a hard life but I have had some problems with it:

a) The exhaust is rattling. Its already been replaced once under warranty but its gone again

B) The front seats squeek like mad. The runners were replaced last year and my car casued a re-call apparently as the welds were poor. However again they are squeeking badly

c) The carpet has a great big hole where the accelerator touches it. I dont think this is 'normal wear and tear' on a car with 18k on the clock, I just hope Toyota agree.

I love the car, and was considering buying 2 next year (a new one for me and another for my girlfriend) but I'm not so sure now. The Citroen C1 is cheaper but I thought the Aygo would have a better dealer service but I haven't found this.

Has anyone else had these problems?

Cheers

Andrew

Not yet, and hope not to.

It's still only 1 year old, and only has 4200 well loved miles on the clock. :)

You have to keep in the back of your mind that the Aygo is built on the cheap, so I would expect silly little niggles to appear even though it’s a new car.

I’m afraid you get what you pay for.

I have replaced plenty of aygo rear exhaust boxes and a couple of carpets under warranty. As said above they are built on the cheap so they can sell them cheap.

Your dealership should replace the items and sort your seats under warranty no problems :D

! they are not that cheap (well maybe here) as said above silencer problems rise from too much engine movement (mountings possibly too soft) 2 seat rail not of good material 3 i have rust on my roof 4 i wouldnt expect such problems from a car branded as a Toyota cheap or not!

Woudl you accept it if it were branded Peugeot or Citroen? ;)

Well thats worried me now - was thinking of getting an Aygo Blue with the sports exhaust but if the movement of the engine is going to cause it to fail then I am not so sure

As for being built to a budget - so are Fiat Panda's, Ford KA's, and numerous other small city cars and yet they do not seem to have these kind of 'economy' problems!

Unfortunately no car is perfect, even Toyotas, reliable as they are, some models can have issues... the Aygo is no exception, regardless of cost, sometimes you get bad apples I'm afraid.

PaulWorthing: Things like engine movement won't occur on every car, so don't let that stop you buying one - just because one person has problems doesnt mean you will.

My only real issue so far, the stitching coming apart on my leather gearknob - no problem, they're replacing it for me anyway! ;)

I've had similar problems as Mannor007.

Terrible loud squeeking front passenger seat and a dodgy rattling noise from the rear of the car (exhaust area). A leaking drivers side windows seal. Engine sometimes wont start and the just ticks over (spark plugs maybe?) but that seems to of fixed it self at the moment.

Had to take the car to the garage 4 times to get the seat fixed only for it to start squeeking again.

Had the seal replaced on the drivers side window as it was leaking under heavy rain, however its started leaking again.

When I told the garage about the rattling exhaust they told me that its due to the engine and its meant to sound like it?! Its difficult to hear it when your driving it but ive had a fair few comments from different people asking if my car is ok.

Also got told that they plugged the car into a computer to check abuot the engine not starting and it came up clean ....must be fine then??

Cars just hit 11k, and is about 18 months old. Think they have a timer in them when they hit a year old they start to fall apart. Looking forward to seeing what happens when it gets to the grand old age of 2.

Ideally i'd take it back to the garage to get it looked at but every time we go through the same old thing of taking it in for them to say they havent got the parts and then having to get it taken in again when the parts arrive (wouldnt mind so much but its an hour round trip to get the car to and from the garage, gets a bit annoying after having done it a fair few times now.

Sorry to hear about your probs but my + is on 10,500 miles, 15 months old and not a single problem. Someone slashed a tyre and nicked the boot Badge but that's it!

Only "problems" I have is the little shelf in the centre console rattles a little on rough roads. That's it.

Unfortunately with any car and any manufacturer you get the odd lemon.

I think this topic is getting a bit fruity! What with feldman talking about the odd lemon, and Demonic angel and her bad apples.....putting the 2 of you together we are getting a right pear!

No seriously, it is a shame to hear of other people with faults that don't exist with mine. I have not experienced any of these yet, and long may it continue. maybe I have been lucky to get a peach of a car? :P

The factory produces 300,000 plus vehicles a year. If the number of warranty claims was calculatred as a percentage, I'm confident it would be tiny

My tech guy says that Toyota quality isnt what it was and its mainly trim problems (esp avensis) that occur.

These days though all car makers are building more cars for less cost so something has to give though. My aygo has been fine (apart from wind whistle) for 4300 miles already in 2 months. :o

I have to say that my mother in laws cars (yaris 06 and then an Auris T spirit) and all of my cars (5) have been v good.

Ive had 6 AA focues in three years and 3 had to go back with engine probs!! So Toyota is better that Ford....

I think it is a given that French cars are junk.I work in the trade and if we had to rely on Toyotas for our work we would be closed within a month.Luckily for us the market in the U.K is flooded with Renaults and other French cars.Keeps us busy.Look at the JD power surveys they say it all.My family all drive Toyotas because I have told them if they buy a French car they can get someone else to fix it.I would never get any peace.

My comment was meant with irony: the Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 are

technically the same car, they just look different from the outside... :?

Of course I know that and what worries me is will the tie in with the french pull Toyota down as it certainly has with Nissan or will it pull the french up.Worrying times for toyota owners.Hate to see their legendary reliability suffer.
