there ae three 'sports' models to the frog eyed e11 series:

the SR: entry level, 14" alloys 1.6L 4A-FE engine, 5 speed gearbox good seats and interior and nice colour too expect around 1750 - 2250 roughly

the G6: mid range, 14" alloys 1.3L 4E-FE engine, 6 speed gearbox, same seat and interior as the SR and comes with a mesh grill, front diffuser and red honeycomb around 2000 - 2400

the G6R: top end, 15" alloys 1.6L 4A-FE engine, 6 speed gearbox, same seats and interior as SR and comes with mesh grill, side skirts, G6R front bumper (has a sportier front) and red honeycomb dials around 2500 - 3200 quite hard to come by now (i wanted one but settled for the SR)

common faults? its a toyota corolla they are so reliable, only thing that was wrong with mine was it needed new piston rings which is a terribley uncommon fault (previous owner never heard of tis thing called engine oil  )

hope this helps

could be a GS it appears to have the same alloys as the SR tho (they may have been an optional extra originally) yes the 1.6 corolla is a low insurance group 7 i believe, with only the G6R being one higher at 8.

If you're thinking of tuning it, you would never go for a 1,3 litre (4EFE) engine in E8-E11.

Always go for a 4AFE engine hence you can drop a silvertop/blacktop/4AGZE into the hole without the big problems!

I don't know much about the E11 in particular, though i would go for a G6R for the gearbox and the OEM styling...

However, it will cost you as they're not that often seen, fortunately (makes them a little more special ;))

Good luck finding the right car :)

my best advice for you, (this is from much experience) is save your money for an engine swap, with the money you put into trying to tune this engine it would be far cheaper and quicker to swap it for a more powerful one in the first place, like the 20V 4A-GE or the supercharged 4A-GZE. if you really don't want to swap have a gander at my site and i have some fast road cams for sale on eBay, check the topic in the corolla forum. the boot hsa plenty of room i used to have a modest one before i stripped the back out. again i must stress it is easier, faster and cheaper to just swap the engine than try and tune the 4A-FE. good luck with whatever you choose though :D

The facelist has the vvti engine and you'll find even fewer parts for that than the 4A-FE engine.

I've done the supercharger swap into my AE111 and that was not a cheap option. It's an ongoing project that started over 3 years ago- and you WILL need deep pockets to do the job properly. Take a look at my website to see what I've done with mine.
