Rav 4 Alloys

Right folks, I have a question I know may well have been asked previously so I apologise in advance.

When I had a certain other car, the dealer would replace alloys ,under warranty, that had signs of corrossion.

Do Toyota also do this ?

Reason I ask is I can see the beginnings of corrossion "bubbles" on all my alloys...

:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Hi,

:D

I believe they do. I know that when I was in the avensis forum there were some issues with wheels bubbeling and the MR T dealers replaced the alloy...not sure if they replaced all 4 if they didnt all show signs but the ones that were naff I know they did...

You say yours are corroding??? Will have to check mine....

Hope this helps

Be careful what you clean the wheels with. Some of these solutions are very corrosive. I use car shampoo and water and occasionally Autoglym alloy wheel cleaner. It might help for when you get out of warranty.

Cheers

Damn 3 yr warranty, I just bought mine at 4 yrs old with a 12 month Toyota warranty, noticed the bubbling wheels after I had washed the Rav and made enquiries as to warranty claim, no joy sorry 3 years only on wheels ???

If they know the wheels are prone why don't they do something about it ?

From a Toyota dealer?

Take it back then and ask them to sort it.

So what is the warranty period for wheels ?

So what is the warranty period for wheels ?

Three years from new car, or one year on new wheels.

But if I'd just bought a used (presumably approved) vehicle from a dealer I wouldn't expect the wheels to be corroded, or if they were I'd expect the dealer to resolve it.

Otherwise you might as well pick one up of eBay for considerably less money.

Thanks T600, I'll have a chat with the salesman who sold it to me, rather than the workshop guy. When I bought it and took it away the same afternoon up it was dirty and I didn't notice the corrosion, may be worth mentioning that fact.

Good luck. I hope they do the decent thing and replace them for you.

Failing that, you could get them refurbed which will cost you about £50 +VAT per wheel. Not as good as new wheels IMHO as refurbishers tend to use a plastic coating which doesn't look quite as good as the original lacquer on alloy, but actually it may last longer than the average Toyota wheels, so perhaps worth a try.
