Mot Time.

I've got my car booked in for an mot and service next week. It's my first service with the K&N 57i installed and have a question if anyone can help?

Do i still have to pay for a air filter at service or will they notice i have my own and not charge me for the filter as i dont need it?

And should i replace the stock airbox for the mot or is it normal to leave it in fitted for mot?

I'm just hoping that it will pass mot and they don't fail it cos of some strange readings they will get for their tests while the K&N is fitted.

Thanks.

Check the re-test options.

I think you would be OK for free re-test within 24 hours or so if it fails on emissions, in which case I might be tempted to leave it in, then re-fit stock if there is any problem with the emissions.

Least that way you'll know what it's doing with the K&N which would be interesting.

Though on the other hand if it then failed again with the stock filter you'd have used up your retest with the K&N.

Excellent, thanks for the prompt reply. I will leave it in and see how it goes. No other engine mods done, apart from the cusco strutt brace which i will need to bend some abs pipes to fit tomorrow, so if i do any damage i will know during service.

I've got some lift bolts i am going to ask to be changed, any idea how much they would charge for that average cost/time? i have the bolts already. I expect they'd have to remove the strutt brace to get engine cover off. I'm tempted to change it myself but if the price is reasonable i will get them to fit.

Thanks

I think someone recently said £88, though whether that included removing a strut brace I don't know. And prices can vary so much.

Good luck.

PS - give them a ring and ask what the re-test deal is.

Hmm, would they charge to remove the brace? 6 bolts and a bit of wrist action?

If so i'll take it off myself and make life easier. lol

thanks for all the help. I think i should buy a air filter recharger kit and get my k&n oiled after service too. Just to make sure. ;)

Fo others in the same boat as me, I called up Mr.T today and asked about possiblity of failing mot with the K&N fitted and she said she can't see why it would fail, no gaurantee though. She seems pretty familiar with what i was asking as i never mentioned K&N, just performance air filter, and she immediately knew it was a K&N so they have done mot's on corollas previously with performance air fitlers with no problems.

I asked her about the lift bolts and was passed to technical department whom started quoting all this extra other work to be done,, just to change the bolts, which i have bought them already. Head gasket bolts etc....

I've not heard of anyone else having to change anything other than the lift bolts themselves when changing the screws, either way he wouldnt give me a price until he see's it. So i think i may fit the bolts myself. Lots of pictures and posts on the board so will refer to them.

Thanks

Armz.

Good luck with your MOT.

I have my MOT on Saturday for 2002 T-Sport that has covered 36k. Hopefully it'll sail through.
