New Sat Nav

When I was in halfords the other day I noticed they had a mount for the garmin like a bean bag type of affair which you just placed on the top of the dash board, you then connected the garmin sat nav on to it so there was no need to attach it to the windscreen it looked like a good idea and wish Tom Tom would come out with a similar idea I find it a pain to remove it each time you park

I believe it was because Garmin are big in the USA and it is illegal in some states to connect a sat nav to your windscreen that they came up with the idea

Here is a link https://buy.garmin.com/shop/alt-image-lg.do...oductImageLarge

How much ?

Garmin mount for 310 and 5 series is quite small compared to others and less than1/2 size of some of the Tomtom ones. It is the mount which is connected to power cable unit clis in to mount, very tidy.

Anyone seen or got a Nokia 6110 Navigator?

Nokia 6110 Navigator

Something like this would do me for the few times I need Sat Nav.

I read the battery life ain't that hot when using the Sat Nav.

Any thought's?

Fuji

This link gives some good reviews on it , might go for it myself if Orange will do me an upgrade.

I would go for something like the 02 XDA Orbit LINK(HTC P3300) as I find the screens on the Nokia's rather small.

This phone also has a better GPS chip...wifi and processor....

If you're really feeling flush this is now available as an accessory;

http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/aimupload...%20000945-1.pdf

45 minutes to fit and about £2k before you ask! Maybe Kingo could do something special and you could always re-install the original and sell this when you change your RAV???

Thank you very much everyone, interesting reading :g:

Now there is the rub Anchorman, I'm not feeling flush at all. So I will see how much Vodafone will charge me to upgrade to the Nokia, next March.

I can see what you mean about the bigger screen on the O2 XDA Orbit, Chatman. Where we live it is pretty much use Vodafone or run around with your arms in the air like a madman trying to get a signal.

But unlocking one from O2 shouldn't be a problem if necessary.

A bonus ball, to all this, is if I did get the Nokia, we might get away with only taking one phone charger with us when we go away on holiday, because my wife is using my old Nokia at the moment.

Anyway, we will see what happens in March. By then, things will no doubt have changed and there will be a dozen phones on the market with GPS.

Thank you all very much

Hi

It does not have to be expensive to get a sat nav on a phone . Prices are coming down all the time for example you can get the N95 (built in GPS)for £50 on a £30 a month contract You would have to buy the software to go on the card .

Did this a few months ago Orange £30 , 18 month contract, free Broadband ,£17.99 previosuly so mobile contract works out at £12.01 for 325 free minutes, free Nokia N70 mobile (no built in GPS).

Bought Navicore software and GPS bluetooth unit for £70 from MobileFun.

Screen size not bad but I tend to listen to the unit more than look at it when driving.

You make your choices ,I find it very handy to have the sat nav and phone as one unit its just a pity the GPS is not built into the N70 , so tempted to ask Orange about upgrading to the N95.

Regards to all

Sounds good to me llith

The Vodafone price plans I was looking at for the Nokia 6110 Navigator are:

£40 for the phone, £25 per month contract with either 225 mins talk & 100 texts or 150 mins talk & 500 texts.

If I can get something like that in March, I'll be well happy :yahoo:

Here is the latest twist in the sat nav takeover wars

After the announcement of their quarterly figures for 2007, Garmin have made it public that they want to buy map supplier Tele Atlas. The American manufacturer of navigational aids is willing to spend € 24.50 per Tele Atlas share for this, making the total takeover sum no less than € 2.3 billion. This amounts to € 500 million more than the official bid which TomTom made a couple of months ago.

I know that tomtom support is rubbish but so far mine has worked great.

Its a big improvement on my former ttn3 and the mount is very small also

The screen is big in comparison to all before it

i expect faults will develope and its not usually tomtom who sort out the problems its the knowledgable members in the forums

I had a look at the tomtom 720 in the shops it seems like a step forward in terms of features .

I have used pocketgpsworld for there speed camera warnings on the tomtom 500 I have and can recommend them .

I also updated the software to the new TomTom’s NavCore 7 there are some improvements but some of the features that are available on the newer tomtoms are not available to owners of the older tomtom ! I think it is worth doing the download to the new software but don't forget to make a back up of your tomtom first also tomtom home has been updated
