Special Thanks To Anchorman

I am posting this message as a special thanks to Anchorman who helped me, a damsel in distress.

If any of you read my previous post about my 2002 RAV4 NRG and the dreaded flywheel problem, you'll know that I wasn't feeling too impressed with Toyota. Having decided to change my RAV, I started to look around for a new car but couldn't find anything that I liked other than another new RAV.

I took the plunge and became the proud owner of a 3 month old RAV4 XTR at the end of September. Within a few days of owning the car, the gear box sprung a serious leak and you can imagine how gutted I felt seeing my nice new car on the back of a breakdown truck. The service dept of the Toyota garage told me that it was just a seal that had gone and that they would repair it (obviously under warranty). Not knowing anything about cars but I new a man who did, I contacted Anchorman and he kindly offered to speak to the garage and find out exactly what the problem was. It turned out to be the gasket which I understand was a major repair.

Talk about 'out of the frying pan into the fire' or what! Had Toyota let me down yet again after giving them another chance?

Anyway armed with this information, it gave me the confidence to speak to the dealer manager and say that I didn't want that car back but wanted a replacement. Not knowing the full facts I would have likely accepted my car back not knowing that it had been dismantled and put back together again.

The car may well have been fine and never given me another problem but it had took the shine off it and I would always have this at the back of my mind.

As Toyota have a 30 day exchange policy, they didn't really have any choice but to exchange the car for me and this morning I have collected another RAV4 XTR and hope that this one is going to be ok. The dealer manager was very helpful and personally sorted this problem out for me so I am happy with the way they dealt with it.

As Toyota customer servies new that this was the second time I had had a problem with a car, they made a goodwill gesture that paid for the parking sensors that I have had fitted. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Before I end this post, I don't know if other RAV4 XTR owners are having problems with their car insurance companies.

Both Norwich Union and More Than don't have the RAV4 XTR D4D 2.2 on their database. More Than are currently having to show my car as a Honda CRV as this is the nearest car they can find that matches mine. The notes attached to my policy have the proper details of the car but because I had to change the car registration number I had to go through the whole process again of them referring it to their underwriters. This took over half an hour on the phone to a foreign call centre just to get the car registration number changed. I have emailed More Than and asked them to add it to their database as soon as possible to save my sanity. I can't be the only one with a RAV4 XTR - can I?

Many thanks once again to Anchorman and all you other RAV4 bods on the forum. Keep up the good work.

Our hero - Anchorman :toast:

Hope you have better luck with this one.

BTW, a H**** C** I'm suprised Fuj didn't pick up on that!! (see his (and a few other's) sig :) )

The XTR has been out a fair few months now, they should have it on their systems by now, I would have thought.

Also, IIRC the XTR is based on the XT4? Surely that'd be a better match??

Thanks all.

Apologies if I offended anyone with the H & C words. I'm still getting used to forum do's and dont's.

Good point Simon - why haven't they matched it with the XT4 instead of the you know what. I'll ask the question.

Sorry folks, night shifts and then only 4 hours sleep before having to get up and look after my super little lad tends to dull the brain!:blink::huh:

I'll try to do better in future :lol: ;)

Brilliant Dave...I was looking for that one to post here and could not find it.....Will file it away to be used when appropriately needed...or when the H&C or L&R letters are misused :o :o ....which in the case of a TOYOTA forum hopefully not soon...
