2001 2.0 Vvti Oil Consumption.

Yep you read it right, 2.0 not 1.8!

I seem to be using oil recently in my 2.0 Avensis. Next time I top it up I'll monitor how many miles it takes to use a litre, like everyone does on the 1.8's.

I have put a litre since my last service about 4 months ago, but not sure of the milage.

Does anyone know of any problems to look out for, or suggestions to what could be causing the oil use? I'm currently on 95K miles. and apart from the oil, runs really sweetly. No smoke, no oil patches on the drive way.

I doubt its the same probelm that the 1.8 vvt-i's suffer from. I would say its down the the car having coverd 95k and its just using oil due to the miles cover'd. I've not heard anybody else with oil consumption problems on the 2.0 vvt-i

I'd be horrified if I had a car that started burning oil at 95k and was told it was due to the mileage, a modern car should be able to go many more miles than that before its started wearing to the point of using oil in quantity.

That's what I thought, surely it should be good for more than 95K miles.

Anyway, I've had a look at my service book, the last service was done just under 4K miles ago and over that time I have put 2 litres of oil in so basically it's using roughly half a litre per 1000 miles. Should I be happy with this?

No, I don't think you should be happy about the oil consumption. I have the same Avensis, 2001 2.0 VVT-i and I have done quite a higher mileage with it - 140000. The only problem is the usual noise level which has become louder. I suggest you take it to a good garage for check-up.
