Anyone Moved From Yaris Ts To Corolla Ts?

I have had my Yaris TS for over a year now, and I'm getting itchy for a new car. As much as I love it, I want more power, and it does my head in not having a 6th gear on the Yaris, which it so needs! So, just a few questions...........

  • What's it like on insurance? The Yaris is only group 7 so I'm used to paying peanuts for my insurance. (I think I paid £250 last time - 26yo female, license held for 2 years, 2 years no claims, 1 male named driver).
  • Having a browse through other threads in this section, it seems that it's not much worse fuel wise compared to the Yaris, is this so?
  • Is it really quicker than the Yaris? :D
  • Is the boot bigger than the Yaris? A very girlie question, but I need to know if I can fit my shopping in  a big Sainsbury's shop can be a bit of a squeeze in the Yaris boot.
  • Is it practical? Sad I know, but our other car is soon to be a 350z, so we need something for ferrying c**p about in, doing the supermarket shop etc.
  • Other cars I've considered are the DC2 Integra Type R (has a HUGE boot) or the Gen 7 Celica (haven't really looked into this much yet, but I like 'em). Can you convince me the Corolla is better??

Actually, it's turned into quite a few questions! Sorry!

I'm 24, only been driving for 2 years now, 1 years no claims...

Wasn't driving for about 4 months after i passed my test, got 1 year 4 months on my first car, lost the 4 months as i changed from Tesco Insurance to Greenlight, had my CTS for 4 months or so now

The Corolla T-Sport is insurance category 14, i'm paying £650 for mine, which drops to £450 when i hit 25 and have 2 years NCB (already asked), Greenlight target a niche market of car enthusiasts though, so i doubt you will get any discount because you are female unlike some providers... maybe £400, but that's more a guestimate than anything.

My mate just bought a 350Z, the boot on that would fit in a decent sized shop actually... it's bigger than you give it credit for (depending on how big your shops are), but the CTS boot is a fair size... food shopping for myself for 2 weeks barely fills a quarter of my boot. Just looking on parkers it says 205l for the Yaris, 365l for the Corolla btw. You can fit a couple of people fairly comfortably in the back, more-so than a yaris at any rate i'd imagine (i learnt to drive in a Yaris). However, if you hit lift alot petrol economy can be.... low. Which scared me a fair bit when i saw it reading 3 mpg in the real time meter which is probably why i took that out and replaced the radio, but i've had it as high as 40mpg, driving like a saint. Again, it says 41mpg, 31 for the Corolla on parkets... but this sorta thing really depends how you drive... it's thirsty when in lift there is no doubt. Keep it between 3k and 4k and you'll get a respectable mpg.

I can't say if it will feel faster, i find that's a very personal thing. But, VVTL-i screams at 6.2k-8.2k, it's fun...and the first time you hit lift you will grin like a nutcase. And that never goes, as far as i read about these parts... and 4 months in i still love it. Just got back from a holiday and weee... awesome. It is quick, and i have little doubt it will spank a Yaris T-Sport, but as i say, i can't tell if it will feel faster every day...find alot of that is down to how noisy it is anyway :D

The Yaris weighs about 20% less than the Corolla, but the Corolla has 83% more BHP, 23% more torque... book says 8.7 for the Yaris, 8.1 for the Corolla but it's pretty common knowledge that is a *****ty time for CTS. I get the impression a low 7, high 6 is fair (in a straight drag it's not far behind/near equal with a CTR till 3rd gear where the CTR gains a car length i hear.. at which point your at 60 anyway... CTR is 6.4), since it's basically the same car as the Celica T-Sport, but 60kg heavier and less efficient aerodynamics, but i doubt that will make 1.1 seconds difference...(7 seconds flat for the Celica)

All i can say it i really love the Corolla, and at very least go out for a test drive and get it into lift and have a bit of a play...

Yeah, but I won't be allowed to leave the Zed in Sainsbury's car park.

Not bad then! :)

I saw one in blue in a car park today, and it looked lovely.......... think I will have to find one locally to test drive. :)

Thanks for the very thorough answer BTW. :)

I ve got a compressor, i find the boot big enough for a months shopping plus a buggy, or a car seat and maybe a weeks worth. BTW if you can stretch the budget and for the insurance go for the compressor its a group 16 and is amazing, its unbelievably quick!!!!!!

I'd looooove one, but they're a bit (ok a lot!) out of my price range.

id pretty much agree with previous stuff mentioned if u drive it sensible you get decent mpg i get anywere from 29-35 depends on times of day and traffic build up. the first time u hit that lift u will smile its guaranteed.

plenty of space in the boot i did a golf holiday with the lads had 4 sets of clubs in with luggage with seats folded down me and my co-pilot in the front

although i did previously have a celica and that 2 had a fair size boot

had my cts for 7 months now and unless u boot it everywere thers isnt a lot of difference in mpg between a 140 celica and corolla tsport
