Has anyone had there timing chain checked?, does it ever need replacing?, reason for asking is that my engine seems to vibrate allot, you can't really see it vibrate but feel it more than it should be, is that normal?, theres the same sort of sound comming into the cabin, almost sounds like a diesel! can anyone enlighten me on any of this?

Thanks

does it only sound like a diesel when you slow down?

if so, my old yaris and the corolla now does it, i think its normal

Hi

My 1 does that to,vibrates more than my last car which was a mondeo, jus when its idling, not awful bad thou, bit like cars used to do before they got all refined! Gettin a funny sound from engine as well. Replacing aux belt tensioner this w.end. It was mentioned to me at my last service. If it works for me ill let you know, tink it 1 of the little problem they develop,or so i read. Its done 80k,so cant really complain that much! Sparks have 20k on them so mite replace them to, see if she runs smoother on a new set. Sure if you get an answer yourself mite let me know

Thanks

No it sounds like a diesel all the time, what i mean is if you have been in a well sound proofed diesel car, say like an audi diesel it sound like that when in side, yes its not awful but still can hear vibrations, the engine definatley vibrates alot! mine has done 92k though, might replace the spark plugs, last time i checked a few hundred miles ago they were ok. I'm changing the lift bolts this weekend and will check the timing chain. Forgive but where and what is the aux belt tensioner. I did try to localise the sound, can't really hear from outside but inside in the footwell the behind the centre console/dash at the bottom, is the exhuast manifold directly under neath? did cheack that though! any ideas?

Its the rubber belt on the left hand side of engine as you look straight at it,runs your air con compressor, alternator and all that stuff. What i should have said was auxilary belt. Have you had a look at the engine mounts? Before i bought my car some1 had made a balls of putting one in. It was replaced under warranty,i dont even want to know why it was ever off in the first place,im not sure what they have to remove to maneuver the gearbox when doing clutch.

Be a b**ch if if your chain broke or slipped, saab 95 have a chain and there notorious for snapping, big bill after, especially engine in are cars. I tink theres supposed to be an audible clatter from engine when there louse. If you go on to http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1127339 you can hear a cars timing chain slapping away. Mite be some use to you. They say its a jetta, but think its a bora to me and you.
