Starting Problems - Immobiliser?

Hi Guys,

I recently had a problem starting my Avensis, which I thought was the starter motor, but turned out to be the starter switch.

After having this problem fixed at a friendly local garage about three weeks ago, all seemed well until the last week where three mornings now, the car has failed to start without a lot of key turning.

All the lights on the dash light up (so it doesn't appear to be a Battery issue) but when the key is fully turned there is a fast mechanical clicking sound which lasts for about five seconds then it stops, and the car still does not start. I've tried and had the same results happen on and off for about 30 minutes today, without any success.

Does anyone know if it's possible that this could be an immobiliser issue caused by the changing of the ignition switch, or is this just a coincidence?

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? If so, was it easy/cheap to fix?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Cheers, S.

I've got the same problem mate.

Once I've bump started mine its fine.

I was changing front discs and pads today, had the radio on only.

Tried to start it and all I got was clicking.

Bump started it and away I went.

Had the Battery and alternator checked out straight away and all ok????????

Keep in touch if you get a solution and I'll let you know if I hear anything
