OK Here's the story for those who don't already know.....

04/10/02 - Purchased MR2 from Oxford County Cars

09/10/02 - Car towed to Oxford County Cars as engine blew up no oil

OCC (Oxford County Cars) Replaced:

Engine (for 2nd hand 28k engine)

Cam Belt

Cam Belt Pre-Tensioner

Cam Belt Timing Wheel

Clutch

06/11/02 I got car back

13/11/02 Under Tray wasn't sealed back correctly and dropped

- tow to OCC

14/11/02 Get car back again

19/11/02 Back pipe splits from OCC

20/11/02 Get check from 2x independant Exhaust centres who say BB

needs replacing and the diff caps have been damaged possibly by some

recent engine work !!

I have just spoken to RAC Legal Services who reckon I don't stand

much ground for rejecting the car ?

When I bought the car I paid £3750 cash.....

Any idea's what I can do next, I'm a 'little' angry and really don't

know what to do next !!!!!

Hi rhaines,

got to go with the first thing that came into my head "buy a new Corolla T Sport" :P

sorry mate could'nt resist that oppertunity,

but seriously mate, I have as bad a motoring experience before, and can only suggest the following,

write down every thing that has happened since you've had the car, the more effort you put in to presenting this the better the effect, make sure you high light, the motoring clubs and accositations your a member of, pictures help a lot.

Then at all times remain calm, don't swear, and go talk to the dealer, present him with the written report, and try to negotiate your refund, if he is not prepared to give a refund try for a like for like exchange, this demonstrates your willingness to try to resovle this, if there is now way he'll deal, you know have to explain that you have no choice but to go to the local press, motoring press WWW and spill the beans. Local rags love this sort of thing and it's localy he wont want bad publicity.

Good luck mate no one needs this sort of ****. ;)

tell me about it, I tried reasoning with him over the hone today as after some research to replace the Apexi back box that came with the car would cost at best just under £400, I compromised and agreed to have a standard exhaust fitted for £188 if they pay for it, wouldn't look half as good but it's a compromise......

Am going to their garage tomorrow to have a look at the diff cups, and then on to his exhaust place which he didn't want me to go to, I said that I would go with him which he wasn't happy about but eventually realised that I wasn't going to back down on that one !! I want to hear exactly what is said and what he says to them....

try trading standards

works everytime for me.. mention to them that your seeking advice from them and that you will push for them to investigate.

Jake, am absolutely broke at the mo so can't afford the 198 yet alone the extra for a like for like...

Steve...

Have already mentioned trading standards etc, etc, am seeing them tomorrow so am putting it all down on paper etc so I have records and the like names, contacts, who I have spoken to and hope I can get this resolved.

Will post when I know more.....

Real tough luck - hope you get it sorted. I have been following your "sorry" tale. I have had bad experiences too - be reasonable and that may be the only way.

Sorry to hear about your problems with the dealer and to be honest it looks like the deck is stacked against you but keep plugging away and I hope you get it sorted out,but at leasted you have some come back unlike me who brought mine private and I can only replace the broken parts as and when I can afford it.The exhaust split about a month after getting the car and it cost me £330 for a Magnex system.
