Oil Consumption

There have been a few topics on how many miles to the gallon we get from our vehicles, but what about oil consumption? my Rav is using about 1/2 litre every 1500mls nothing to worry about, but wondering how it compared with your vehicles.

This is the first vehicle i have owned for many years that as used any oil.

Can't really help you too much- my '94 3SFE engine suffered from oil loss due to a crankshaft seal. The 2nd replacement 3SFE engine suffered from old age and burnt a bit of oil.

Some of the younger guys with younger RAVs will no doubt give you better feedback - good luck

As far as I can remember, I've only had to put a litre of oil in mine since I bought it (about 7,000 miles ago).

I do check the oil, water and tyres regularly, usually after I've washed the car and I'll check my wife's car at the same time

First service next week, so I'll see how that goes.

By all acounts that was about 6900 miles ago!!! :D

Oil consumption will vary depending on mileage and type of use, low mileage tending to be the worst.

Modern synthetic oils tend to cling quite well so are worse for oil consumption but better for protection so it is a bit of a trade off. It will get better as the mileage gets higher but it might not ever stop completely.

Mine uses about 1 -1.5 litres per 5000 miles and then I change it anyway.

Cheers

Mine was down to the minimum at its 20k service (in fact, the warning light came on driving it to Mr T for the service). The garage said they didn't find anything apparently wrong but they don't expect it to need topping up between services so to keep an eye on the level and, as soon as I notice a drop, to take it back for them to check.

I usually check every month or so anyway and there was no drop during the first 10k.

Well I have a T180 and i have to keep replacing the oil in my'n in fact i said to the dealer that I was drinking oil but they said that it was fine and normal.

It will go though a hole sump of oil with in the 10.000 mile services

Is there is any other T180 owners out there with this ?

My T180 is the exact opposite! I've done 4000 miles since we got the car in late July, and the oil level on the dip stick has only gone down by a millimetre or two.

Makes me wonder if there's something wrong with mine!
